Romania returns to Hopman Cup action
Romania will field a team at Perth's Hopman Cup for the first time in 12 years with glamour teenager Sorana Cirstea and Victor Hanescu confirmed for the January 2-9 mixed teams event.
Cirstea, 19, has a current world ranking of 28 and made it through to the quarter-finals of this year's French Open before being bundled out by Australian Sam Stosur.
The pair could meet again at the Hopman Cup, with Australia to be represented by Stosur and Lleyton Hewitt.
Hanescu is ranked 28 in the world after reaching the quarter-finals in Doha, Casablanca, Hamburg and Kitzbuhel this year.
The 28-year-old reached the round of 16 at the French Open after beating world No.10 Gilles Simon.
Romania is the fourth team confirmed for the $1 million event, joining Australia, Russia (Elena Dementieva and Igor Andreev) and the US (Melanie Oudin and John Isner).
It is the first time Romania have competed in the event since Irina Spirlea and Dinu Pescariu teamed up in 1998.

Yeah, it says that at Moscow, during the match with Monica Niculescu, the ligaments in her knee broke because of an injection she had in order to relieve the pain from the injury in her foot. She was taken to the hospital and now her leg is in plaster for some time. Maybe it will require surgery.

Re: Sorana News And Articles
I cannot believe she's in a cast right now.
I did not understand the insistence to continue playing with the ongoing injury.
Too bad .. Sad way to end the season
I hope next season she'll do a significant upgrade in her game.
I believe in her talent.
We love you Sorana!!!
Recover quickly

I like this as it means I can see her play every match in singles and doubles.
Hopman Cup has a nice line-up, Cirstea, Stosur, Dementieva, Oudin, Robson, nice mix.
Lets hope she's fit to play though.

Re: Sorana News And Articles
I've read in a newspaper that she needs at least 2 months before she can start the training again. The Hopman Cup starts in 2 Januray 2010 so it's a high probability she won't play there...

i think that despite everything, we can't forget that she's still a 19 year old.
perhaps this decision is too big for her to decide
she has a professional team to help her and direct her in decisions like that.

Re: Sorana News And Articles
This is why I don't like cortisone injections and the like. Pain is there for a reason- to tell you it's time to take it easy. One positive: Sorana will remember how much she loves playing tennis because of this injury. Sori . Get better.
