Re: Paula "the champion of Poland" Kania cheering thread

Paula won a good match against Korzeniak in Gliwice 10k final. 7:6(2) 3:6 7:5. It was so long as Ania doesn't make as many stupid errors as other ITF players do. If Paula was more concentrated, abused a racket less - it could be 6:3 6:3. Paula showed some good skills like strong forehand, brilliant dropshots, good attacks, volleys and drive volleys. Paula was the attacking side, she's very energetic, dynamic, aggresive but also very nervous. She abused her racket every each UE which means she's very very ambitious one. After she squandered two SP in the first set leading *6:5 with the break, she hit the racket straight next to the line judge. When she minimally missed her first serve, which could be an ace, she tried to hit a linesman with a second serve. Also when she was in her nervous mode, she commited some footfaults which were called by baseline judges. After like five ones she shouted to the linesman - "Jak jeszcze coś powiesz, to coś ci zrobię" (if you say something once again, I'll do something with you) Line umpire called a foot fault once again and then gestured to her coach and boyfriend Błażej Koniusz who calmed her down. She was losing 3:5* in the final set but she calmed down, changed her tactics, became even more agressive and won 7:5. She should have played like this earlier but those nerves, totally unnecessary, especially after she won first set she should have been more calm but she started her self-destruction She was even down 1:4* with a double break, then she concentrated herself, broke back to 3:4* and then the rain came... Afterwards indoors she had two break points to break back to 4:4 but again couldn't use them, again got angry and lost 3:6. But she won happily and deservedly.

Not only Błażej but allso whole her family supported her there. There was her mother Zdzisława, a tall brunette who is a volleyball coach, also her father Paweł who isn't the tallest one. Her little sister Zuzanna was also there, she came on the court with Paula just before the match and just after the win she run to the court and hugged Paula. How sweet. Paula seems to be a nice, concrete and sociable girl, totally different outside a court. She was very happy as it was her first ITF singles title. She thanked to her family, coach and also umpires for a high quality judging.

Re: Paula "the champion of Poland" Kania cheering thread

Paula had a good tournament in Katowice:

1R: [wc]Kuricova 61 60
2R: [7]Klaffner 67(4) 64 75 (saving 1 MP)
QF: [1]Kalashnikova 26 36

In two weeks she will play Telavi and in Tbilisi afterwards. Hopefully she can kick Kalashnikova's ass there.

Re: Paula "the champion of Poland" Kania cheering thread

Nice article about Paula on itftennis.com

17-year old wins in debut final appearance

In a rainy and freezing cold Gliwice, Poland, 17-year old Paula Kania was having the best week of her professional career to date. The sixth seed from Poland was featuring in her debut singles final on the ITF Pro Circuit where she was up agains the No. 1 seed, Anna Korzeniak, also from Poland, who was contesting her second final of the year.

In a rain interuppted match which stretched the match out to 7hrs 30mins (actual on court playing time was 3hrs 14mins) Kania prevailed to claim her first title, winning 76(2) 36 75, in front of great support. Kania lives not too far from Gliwice.

Polish players also dominated in the doubles event and for only the second time on the ITF Pro Circuit, all four semifinalists were from Poland. The only other time this occurred was back in Gydnia in May 2004. The title was eventually claimed by No. 3 seeds Justyna Jegiolka & Katarzyna Kawa who won 62 76(4) over No. 4 seeds Olga Brozda & Veronika Domagala.

Throughout the week, and despite the bad weather, plenty of spectators arrived each day to take in the tennis action, Gliwice is certainly a town of tennis fans!

Re: Paula "the champion of Poland" Kania cheering thread

Paula lost to Kalashnikova both in Telavi and Tbilisi (and both times in 2nd round). The draw was again unlucky

Doubles was better, in Telavi she partnered with Zlochova and they lost to Kalashnikova/Klaffner ()
6:7(2) 6:3 11-13

But in Tbilisi she's playing with Susanyi and they are already in final! Good luck to them.
