Greek team for World Indoors in Istanbul next week

Men: Filippidis (PV), Baniotis & Chondrokoukis (HJ), Douvalidis (60mH), Tsatoumas (LJ)
Women: Paneta (TJ) and Filandra (800m)

there will be no PV qualifying with only 10 guys on the entry list
Papahristou was also in the team but had to withdraw because of illness

Good luck to all of them! I've been looking up Olympic Qualification and i have some questions. *According to wikipedia, so far we have qualified with A:
Women: Papachristou, Paneta, Zapounidou, Kyriakopoulou
Men: Douvalidis, Hondrokoukis, G.Filippidis, K.Filippidis, and Tsatoumas
B:
Women: Lika, Papageorgiou
Men: Tsakonas, Poulios, Stamatogiannis, Papadimitriou, Stefanopooulos

From doing my own research, I've discovered that the following athletes make the A standard but aren't mentioned on wikipedia:
Women: Kokkinariou
Men: Baniotis
And the following make the B standard as of now but can't go unless they make the A standard:
Women: Ledaki, E.Stefanidi
Men: Lebesis

We also have some athletes that are close to making it, like Derveni, Smalios, Stergiou, Ifadidou, P.Iakovakis, G.Tsakonas, Tsiamis, Perra, Skafida, Kokloni, Filandra, Moustakas, etc.
We have some who have an outside chance of making it, like Ferra, Fraggos, men 4x400 relay, etc.

And I also have some questions to ask you if any of the following have retired: S.Iakovakis, Gravalos, Kefala, Donta, Abatzidou, Gazea, Strataki, Dova, Redoumi, Hantzi-Neag, Efedaki, Terzoglou, Kalpakidou, Karastamati, Tsoumeleka, Xinou, S.Papadopoulou, and Hatzipanagiotidou*

Filandra 2.02 11th out of 18, she ran a brave race

It's Tsatoumas now, whatever that means

the only ones I'm sure they haven't retired are Iakovakis, Kefala, Karastamati and Hantzi
not sure about the others

Tsatoumas qualified for the final with 8.00m on his 1st attempt
Baniotis and Chondrokoukis too with 2.29m in qualifying

Douvalidis had a mess of a race and went out (7.83)

Tsatoumas and Filippidis compete in the finals in a few hours

Chondrokoukis won gold with 2.33m PB
MASSIVE jump, was around 2.35-2.36m worth

Baniotis in 4th with 2.31 =SB

Olympics will be great as we have chances for medals in athletics, swimming, water polo, rowing, gymnastics, judo, taekwondo, basketball, sailing, etc.

When is the next big athletics event?
And also you should post more in the Greek players threads . Did you hear about Grammatikopoulou?

European champs in June but most of the big names won't compete as it is too close to London

in the Olympic years,the European championships will replace the European Cup

*Hopefully others can make it, but this is a deep squad. It would be nice if some triple jump girls could make the long jump. Papachristou said that she was going to talk with her coach and decide if they were going to do both events. Where are Kokloni and Karastamati for 100m? Maybe if they can make it we can have a 100m relay team, but I don't know where they are. Hantzi-Neag is still trying, but I doubt she will make it since she is getting old, but hopefully I'm wrong. Maybe girls like Derveni and Ferra can make it? *Overall I guess this is a good team so I can't complain even though there are some others who can be there but I think they retired (Efedaki, Terzoglou, Kalpakidou, Gazea, Papadopoulou, etc.)

gmak, I want your opinions on the Greek Olympic performances in athletics
First time since 1988 no athletics medal for Greece . It was kinda expected though

Im so sad for Voula Papachristou.

I am too. She shouldn't have said that, but the penalty was way too harsh and people really overreacted. It's sad that many don't know her and are hating her now for no reason (people from other countries). I heard that she isn't sure if she will continue her career . She better though!!

Also I think she got banned because of her XA tweets that the HOC probably was against, so they used the joke as an excuse to ban her. I don't support XA but those are Voula's political views and it's freedom of speech if she feels like expressing them
