Alexandra is very clearly what I would call a confidence player or a streak player. She can be very good or she can be terrible. I do believe confidence and belief have a lot to do with it. When Alexandra doesn't feel good about her game the results are all there for us to see. It's not a pretty picture.
But when Alexandra is able to get a couple of wins together her game improves very markedly. The more she plays the more grooved she gets the stronger her confidence and her game. Problem of course is 1st round losses don't do players like this an awful lot of good.
Alexandra also clearly needs to improve her hardcourt game. I would say what is needed is following the AO she needs to line up 1 or 2, but no more, hardcourt ITFs, preferably with a fairly easy draw. Some might say that is going for cheap ranking points but I would say it is necessary for her to get her game back in the groove. After a couple such events I do believe Alexandra would be far better equipped to withstand the rigours of the main tour.
