Re: 2009 Clay Court Season

Clay queen Mimi keeps rolling. I looked at Schruff's results on the WTA site before this match and she has historically played well on clay, so I think this was a nice win for Tamira. I think she has a really good chance against Cibulkova. In fact, based on last week, I think she might be the favorite. I hope I didn't just jinx her.

Of note: since Mimi fell to 3-5 on the year, she is 6-2 so far in her last three events. So she is definitely playing better and turning things around. I really felt that way after seeing her in Miami and even more sure of it now.

Thank you for reports, IHeartMimi.

Nice new username.

Tough loss vs Wozniak. Tamira even had match point.
Like vs Kuznetsova another big opportunity missed.
Still can`t believe it!

But she is in position to win now, consistently. Nobody wins every time out. She is only 18. She has plenty of time to learn from mistakes and gain experience, and she will. If she stays healthy and plays a reasonable number of events, there is no reason why she can't--and won't--be in the top 30, and maybe top 20 by later this year. I really believe that. She has nothing to defend until Montreal. Now that she has some matches under her belt, she is getting more and more confident and that is huge for a player. I don't know what will happen today in the match against Cibulkova, who is very tenacious, but I do think she has a real chance to win. She is working with a strong clay court coach. To me, it wouldn't be an upset, but of course I am very biased.

Re: 2009 Clay Court Season

Tamira lost 4-6 0-6

She fell on her hand at 2-1 and the whole arm hurt afterwards

Hopefully it´s nothing serious

Thanks! I was wondering what happened at 2-1, 0-15. It was a long time before play continued. I had a bad feeling then that Mimi maybe got hurt, but when play eventually started, I didn't think much about it anymore. But it explains the 2nd set for sure. She has been playing way too well to lose a set like that.

Well, disappointing. I hope she isn't badly hurt. But it's probably time for some rest anyway, since she's been playing so much and working so hard.

Get well soon, Mimi!

Re: 2009 Clay Court Season

Most likely a torn ligament

Re: 2009 Clay Court Season

Here's a little more about the injury:

http://www.kleinezeitung.at/sport/te...08310/index.do

If I understand it right, the preliminary indication is that the ligaments appear to be stretched rather than torn? If so, that would be better news. She will have to rest it for 3-6 weeks, probably, but let's hope it isn't more serious.

Re: 2009 Clay Court Season

Just want to point something out to lift spirits around here--

The players Tamira beat in Ponte Vedra, Czink and Lepchenko...look at how nicely they played/are playing in Charleston. Czink's in the QF there. Lephchenko had won 6 of 7 on green clay (only loss to Tamira) before bowing out to Dementieva. I'm convinced that not only would Tamira have won against Cibulkova if not hurt, I think she had a good shot at making a deep run at Charleston.

So sad she got hurt. I hope she's back soon!
