Re: Warsaw Open in trouble ?

oh no

Basically they're saying that they're having problems with sponsors. The nogotiations about changing the tournament's date took very long and they didn't have much time to find sponsors. So far Suzuki and Polsat confirmed their sponsorship. "The negotiations with several other companies should finish on...February " - said manager of this tournament.
The talks are ongoing to this day and there's little time left. Tournament's budget must be 1,5 mln $ and they lack 1/3 of it. Warsaw authorities can't contribute more than they already promised and so maybe Orange will be one of the sponsors (if they decide to support WTA event instead of ATP tournament).
If they won't get a sponsor, Warsaw will probably lose this event for many years and they're sad with this situation. They also stated that they had talked to Radwańska, Dementieva, Kuznetsova and Venus Williams that they will come here this year, they are still trying to get Serena to play here.

I hope it will work out and all those players mentioned will play in Warsaw

P.S. sorry for all the mistakes and if my translation is not clear enough

Yes, that is what they are saying. According to the article, as of March 6, they had raised only about 1/3 of the $1.5 million from sponsors that they need to hold the tourney. They need to have the rest by the end of the month.

Machine translation via Google:

TENNIS crisis hits, in both Warsaw and tennis tournaments
06.03.2009 06.03.2009

Agnieszka Radwanska, Jelena Dementiewa, Svetlana Kuzniecow and Venus Williams this year have come back to Poland. It may not come, because the organizers have planned for mid-May WTA tournament in Warsaw have difficulties in finding sponsors. The event could theoretically even be canceled.

At the end of January we learned that instead of low-level tournament in July in the Polish capital will be held this year in the event of a large pool of 600 thousand prize. That is to say, with a much better cast. The organizers, as reported in the first half of February, nag their arrival at the famous American Serena Williams. For best tenisistki the world would be the first visit to our country.

Negotiations on the revision of the term lasted from September of last year. Until the very end but it was not known what it runs and does not encourage us to negotiate with sponsors - explained in the January tournament director Stefan Makarczyk (Warsaw WTA calendar took place in Berlin). For now, we have to ensure the Suzuki [sponsor was the titular rozegranego years ago in Warsaw tournament demonstration - ed] and Polsat. We have discussions with several companies, which should be concluded in the first decade of February.

The talks are ongoing to this day (on Friday, was completed by the next round), and less and less time left. How do we know of about 1.5 million dollars budget of the tournament must be closed by the end of March. At present, there is one-third of this amount.

"If you want to become a sponsor of the tournament - please contact us: biuro@mlsports.pl" That information can be found on the official website of Warsaw Open (under that name for now works).

Cableways people do not exist. You can not count the amount of the missing have told the authorities of Warsaw. A year ago the city spent money with tennis about 3 million (950 thousand. On women and 2 million held in June at the second tournament - men's). This year will be similar, but ...

You will support the tennis. In the capital city does not have too many prestigious events such as these tournaments, and that's excellent for us promotion - says the director of municipal sports bureau in Warsaw Wieslaw Wilczynski. - We also have the possibility, however, its limits. We are not able to give more than what has already been established with the organizers - he adds.

I know how much effort for us to acquire the cost to the tournament. Would be a shame if they went to waste now. . If the event is canceled, it can be sure that it does not return to Warsaw for many years, because the WTA us not forget - and warns Sarah manager Uli Radwańskich Victor Archutowski. - It is hoped that sponsors will be at the end - he adds.

How do I managed to find one of them is likely to be Orange. The company is a sponsor of the tournament titular male (with the prize pool of 450 thousand. Euro - that is, 563 thousand. Dol.). It is not known, however, that Orange is willing to financially support the two events, or ultimately set the expense of men to women (unsuccessfully tried to learn this from the Press Office of TP).

This is just press speculation. I can only confirm that talks with the Orange and several other companies - calms the tournament director Mr Ryszard Fijalkowski. Global crisis hinders our operation, but the reasons for concern for now is not - provides.

From a marketing point of view, the latter would, however, the meaning of Orange, of course, assuming that he wants to focus on a single tournament. The one with the participation of women is higher and better term - wielkoszlemowym just before Roland Garros. This means that the organizers can count on better casting than the ATP event to be held at a time when all of the best in the world are already preparing to rozgrywanego on Wimbledon grass. In Warsaw, the game is on the ground.

In a sense, confirms the information about the license for playing the tournament lords. Orange took it over from the previous owner, the company Prokom Investments SA, by the end of 2008. Apparently not do that to this day. This means that if a party does not take place, the penalty (in the amount of the prize pool) will pay for the company to Ryszard Krauze.

Re: Warsaw Open in trouble ?

Warsaw Open is not in trouble anymore as polish channel "Polsat" has bought the rights to broadcast whole tournament.

According to media partner of the tournament - newspaper "Dziennik" they have 85% of budget (news from 13 March). Currently they are negotiating the participation of tennis stars with agencies.

They also rebuilt the tennis stadium so as to increase the number of seats to 4700.

Thanks for the update. Have you got a link for the Dziennik story, so that I can post it at tennis.quickfound.net: Warsaw & Strasbourg 2009?

The tourney website URL is http://www.warsawopen.com.pl/ but as of this writing it is just a title page, there is no actual website there yet.
