Re: Team USA's Fed Cup Thread - On to Czech Rep. for the Semis - Venue & Teams announ
They are not refusing because of that...if they do then no Olympics for them
Fed Cup has really been put at AWFUL times for them. Venus does not want to keep switching surfaces especially since if she wants to win RG and Serena is injured.
I believe that if we make the final, one or even both will play.

Re: Team USA's Fed Cup Thread - On to Czech Rep. for the Semis - Venue & Teams announ
we can't always depend on WS for fed cup and put everything on their shoulders.
fed cup is a nation team event, where other US players should play, besides the WS, win or lose.
I think we're 50/50 in this tie.
i just don't like the idea of 2 youngsters on our team at the same time.
basically, we need beth to win both rubbers and liezel to win with whoever, not even sure if we'll be alright there.
she needs black to carry her, especially against peschke.

The thing with having 2 doubles specialists is that the singles rubbers are more important in the sense that they make up 80% of the tie and if you have 2 singles players and one gets injured you might lose the the 2nd rubber and 4th rubber since you have to put a doubles specialist in the singles rubber. So it's safer to do 3 singles and 1 doubles player with 1 of the singles players being good in doubles

Yes i agree . I think to have a chance Kops-Jones/Spears would have to make a slam final and/or Abigial would have to get her ranking back inside the top 100 . I think either one of those is very possible .
Anyways, great news that the rubbers will be televised! I hope there is a stream available for people who don't get the Tennis Channel and overseas fans

I like that Beth is playing Raymond/Peschke tomorrow. Liezel already knows how to play Kveta and now Beth will get an early idea which will be good if we come down to a deciding doubles rubber.

Re: Team USA's Fed Cup Thread - On to Czech Rep. for the Semis - Venue & Teams announ
Apparently it interferred with their schedules
What lame escuse will they have next year?
I really think that other than us, NO ONE can beat Russia. I'd say no to serbia, czech republic, france and spain. italy doesn't deserve to be in the semis in my opinion. They are a solid WG team, but nothing more . Schiavone is only good in FC. Same with Pennetta, although she has showed some strong signs in singles in the past year or so.

Fed Cup has been at inconvenient times for both of them, oh well.
That's the point of Fed Cup, to play hard to win for you, your team and your country. Italy were champions in 2006. They deserve to be there.

Re: Team USA's Fed Cup Thread - On to Czech Rep. for the Semis - Venue & Teams announ
Yes, but I'm a fan of Schiavone and other than Fed Cup she never plays well
Belgium should've won! Stupid Kim was injured
Whatever...that's history anyways
I think that Russia deserves to win every year
Their players are committed to Fed Cup. Look at our DC team for example . You'd think we'd follow that structure...
