MDWCs have helped her get to a certain ranking level again. But I think she needs the matchplay that qualies will give her to really cement herself there. I don't see it as a bad thing.

I agree. The ranking jump in 2009 pushed her out of qualifying too soon. She needed those matches to be ready for the main draw. I think her resurgence this year bares that out. Losing in the first round of Wimby might have been for the best. Let her work her way up the rankings a little slower this time.

I think ITF's and WTA tourneys have separate WC's limits. I'm pretty sure she should have 1 more WC left, maybe for the USO ? If not, then maybe she should try and play the ITF in Washington so she has a shot at the USO MD. Well, unless she's out of ITF WC's Where's Meelis when you need him

My hope is that she's in NYC sharping that first serve into a razor. My fear is that she's such a genuinely nice girl that she's serving as hitting partner to help get her friend x-tina ready for the olympics. I don't know what she's doing, but Stanford was a good chance to pick up points for the USO, can't believe she didn't take it.

Update: Via twitter, Mel accepted a WC to the Citi Open 2012 WTA Singles Field So now we know

I think she got the lucky loser spot because it says she plays Sloane Stephens but the draw is not showing up correctly. It is actually showing an itf draw?? Weird
