Re: Tournament #2: Sydney Draw + Results
Report
Upcoming tennis sensation Whitney Houston won her first title today, overcoming her opponent Kristin Kreuk in a match that lasted almost three hours.
Houston was off to a good start, breaking Kreuk early in the first set. Kreuk woke up in time, breaking back immediately, while trying to maintain control of the rallies. Serving at 5-6, she did not flinch at Houston's two set points, erasing them with a winner and an ace. However, Houston kept her cool in the tie break, breathing a sigh of relief when Kreuk handed her the set with a netted forehand.
The Canadian was by no means defeated, blasting winners past Houston to break her on love and take a 3-0 lead in the second set, which she didn't let go.
The third set was one full of drama. Kreuk could not keep her momentum and won only two points in the first three games. Houston looked in control as she raced to a 5-2 lead, but Kreuk was not about to give up. Nerves finally took a hold of Houston, hitting error after error, allowing Kreuk to level the score. At 5-5, Houston twice double faulted to allow Kreuk a break point, but the Canadian could not capitalize on them.
Houston again took a lead in the subsequent tie break, wasting two of her three match points before Kreuk hit her final error, a backhand wide. Houston fell to her knees with a scream, going home with $98,500 and the first Premier title of the season.
