Probably some of the veteran players will retire this year. Maybe Sugiyama will hang up her racquets this year. Lindsay D (although I dont want this) will probably make her retirement official after having her second child.
Possible others I think are Jill Craybas and maybe Patty Schnyder.
Do not know about first but here are my candidates:
Amelie Mauresmo if her year is the same or worser than 2008
Jill Craybas
Lindsay Davenport
Mary Pierce
Anastasia Myskina
VRP might at the end of the year, Davenport might retire from singles but hopefully plays doubles, and I have a weird feeling Capriati is gonna say goodbye
Well, Tatiana is "taking a break" already until her spinal disorder is cured (although I read online that this is impossible). She's not entered in any events in 2009, so she basically is retired to me.
Nah, i think Tammy and Ai will stay on. In an interview last year AI said how she wanted to keep playing until she was really old, so i doubt next year. I agree on Obziler though.
Davenport will retire. There's been talk of it for three years and I don't think she'll continue playing part time after the birth of her second child.
I think if Sugiyama's new partnership doesn't work out then she might retire. It's just that she's played doubles with quite a few partners. I'm not sure who would be left for her!
I'd say Stubbs will have to pack it in soon too and Peschke might just follow her.
I don't think Patty will retire---she has to make money to support her hubby's jet-setting lifestyle.
Besides, as long as she is healthy and enjoys what she's doing she should keep with it. Same with Sugiyama. These "older" players are still bringing in more $ than most working folk do.
 Well, i'm still waiting word on whats going on with her shoulder. One of my fave posters STEFI62 talked with Vania Kings coach in Miama last year and said that "Amy was hitting again" after her shoulder surgery. So, we'll just have to wait and see i guess .
I think Schnyder if she continues like in Australia.
Mauresmo probably. Depends on her success.
Davenport
Capriati prob. in a similair way as Seles did
Pierce if she can't come back until the US Open
I feel Sugiyama will continue until Date retires! lol^^
It always depends on family plans and their determination that is left. This is probably different from men's tennis as being a professional female athlete just doesn't work so well with family plans... Quite some players retirements' were due to that!
