hmm I know the year hasn't ended yet but we can already look back and conclude that it wasn't the best year for the Dutch players AND our predictions
I guess everybody was sort-of-right about Arantxa and that's about it...
Misa did certainly not win Wimby or get close to anywhere in the top 100 (let alone top 50, let alone top 30).
Chen and Nic didn't storm into the top 200 (they stormed out - although Chen might just make top 400 again before the end of 2009)
Marlot and Michelle didn't get into the top 300 (they stormed out as well), Leonie didn't pick her tournaments well and dropped 200 spots.
Bibi completely lost her ranking (and her capacity to write a blog) and it seems like Pauline Wong has given up pro tennis.
Danielle Harmsen was about the only one out of all to reach her career high but didn't make the progress some of us hoped for.
It's not all gloomy though as there are a few names in the rankings non of us expected. First of all Richel who started succesfully on the ift-tour and will make it to about 370, which will make her the nr. 3 of the Netherlands on the international rankings (good for her but it also a bit depressing maybe?). The comeback of Elise was a nice suprise as well, although she has been winning tournaments with her eyes closed and then lost in the first round the next week...
Kiki made the progress most of us thought she would make so who knows what 2010 will bring for her. Lesley and Quirine entered the rankings but couldn't make any progress after that because of injuries. They're still young so who knows (the injury thing does tell us to not make predicitons that are too positive though).
Nice suprise was Angelique van der Meet. If she's feeling well, she can get quite far in a tournament but she needs so develop consistency as well. Nicolette van Uitert is slowly climbing the rankings as well - maybe a bit too slow?
As for the rest: Josanne got her ranking back (will she ever make top 500 though?), Marcella is still out there (she got a bit ignored in the predictions last year but at least she's still in there?
) and Clair and Michelle de Groot are hanging on to having a ranking; Claire because she earned it, Michelle will need a few challenger WC's again in order to hold on to a ranking
So... ladies and gentlemen: do you dare to make any predictions for 2010?
Where will the Dutch women be on the rankings at the end of 2010? Who will be the newcomers? Who has left the stage?
Maybe someone can change the name of this thread in "predictions for 2010"? So we can keep on using this thread as it will be nice to keep the 2009 predictions as well
