God, do people have nothing better to do with their time than speculate on tennis players sexuality? Who the feck cares who is a lesbian or not anyway? Does it mean the become a better tennis player if they are?

as an out and about homo i love to speculate on people's sexuality. justine is definitely a carpet muncher. she married her gay husband out of convenience. same with steffi and andre. in fact, id say there is a large percentage of women on the tour that are gay. i always thought davenport and mary joe fernandez had a thing. she married tony godsick, (gay), and they have a nice beard cover up marriage.

Why? What's the purpose? It can be mean and hurtful to some people. Btw, I'm bi myself, but I don't give a shit about other peoples sexuality.

Why is Maria Bueno on the list? Because she is gay ... she was outed by the British press back in the 90s.
One can't forget the delightful Betty Stove and compatriot Rosie Casals. The top echelon in the 60s and early 70s was littered with lesbian legends. Of course there were more than are listed (and I know a few personally).

I tend to think there were a lot more lesbians (per head) in the 60s and early 70s - before tennis became a big commercial game. These days a lot of girls are probably pushed into the sport in search of a buck but back in those days most played purely for the love of the game - and I can't put my finger on why that would make a difference - but I am sure it did. For example, in the 70s there was a great number of lesbians playing in the top ten eg. King, Navratilova, Wade, Turnbull, Casals, Stove etc. That is a pretty large percentage. Most of them grew up when tennis wasn't about money. Is there a correlation? Dunno, but IMO there was a larger percentage of lesbians at the top of the game back in the day.
