Tennis greats Andy Roddick and Serena Williams will team up for an exhibition match at 2 p.m. Dec. 14 at Thompson-Boling Arena, according to an announcement Wednesday from Blue Entertainment Sports Television.

The event is called Rock-n-Racquets presented by BB&T.

Williams and Roddick will play young pros John Isner and Caroline Woziacki.

The event benefits the Andy Roddick Foundation, and also has a musical component.

“From the start, I wanted an event that showcased my passion for tennis, music and The Andy Roddick Foundation so we created Rock-n-Racquets,” Roddick said in the release. “Thanks to BB&T it is especially exciting for me to be able to bring the event to Knoxville where the tennis community and participation throughout the state is so strong.”

Rock-n-Racquets debuted in 2002 in Miami and was followed by exhibitions in Little Rock, Mobile, Boise, Wichita and Omaha.

“Rock-n-Racquets is an incredibly unique event and I am really excited to be a part of it,” Williams said in the release. “Andy and I are close friends, so I look forward to playing with him and giving the fans in Tennessee and evening of great entertainment.”

The plan, according to the release, is to have a men’s singles match between Roddick and Isner, and women’s singles match between Williams and Wozniacki. Also included will be a mixed doubles match of Roddick-Williams vs. Isner-Wozniacki.

Isner is one of the world’s tallest players at 6-foot-9. Wozniacki is ranked 13th internationally.

Wayne Bryan, father of the world’s top doubles team of Bob and Mike Bryan will serve as event emcee. Tennessee men’s basketball coach Bruce Pearl will be a celebrity chair umpire.

Tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. and will be priced from $12 to $77 with a special $10 student and kids 12-or-younger in a designated section.
