#1 SAMANTHA STOSUR

Singles Year End Ranking (2014): 23
Singles Year End Ranking (2013): 18
Win-Loss: 33-24
Prize Money: $1,055,960

Best achievements: WON Osaka, WON Mixed at Wimbledon, R4 French Open
Notable wins: Schiavone (62 63), Cibulkova (64 60), Muguruza (75 36 61), Lisicki (63 63), Cibulkova (64 64), Bouchard (62 62), Schiavone (64 62), Wozniacki (64 76), Cornet (64 62), Gajdosova (76 10 ret.)

Grand Slam results:
Australian Open:
R1 def. Zakopalova 63 64
R2 def. Pironkova 62 60
R3 lt. Ivanovic 76 46 26

French Open:
R1 def. Puig 61 61
R2 def. Meusburger 61 63
R3 def. Cibulkova 64 64
R4 lt. Sharapova 63 46 06

Wimbledon:
R1 lt. Wickmayer 36 46

US Open:
R1 def. Davis 61 64
R2 lt. Kanepi 63 36 67

Overall Sam had a very topsy-turvy year, she failed to produce back to back wins at the start of the year, but as usual got herself together towards the end of the season with a semifinal showing in Beijing and another title in Osaka. She did an awesome job by maintaining her rank in the top 25, and could have a great season next year if she is able to string some matches together early on in the year instead of at the end of the year

Its been an excellent year for Casey, by far her best, raising her ranking over 100 spots and breaking her career high rank. Casey has been a consistent player this year who we were able to rely on her to get a win. Her main struggles were against the top players, she failed to trouble them, hence why she was unable to win any titles or make it deep in big events. She wasn't able to do much in doubles this year and her ranking has slipped. Lets hope for an even better 2015 for Casey next year!

Re: 2014 Player Recap

Casey's year was extraordinary really, considering her record in WTA tournaments prior to 2014 was pretty abysmal really (she'd only ever really performed at ITFs or Grand Slams). Her virtual inability to lose R1 matches was incredible. And that list of notable wins isn't too shabby at all. Yes, she didn't trouble the top-top players but she'd actually barely ever played top-top players before afaik.

Re: 2014 Player Recap

^ Casey was tremendous this year and the ability to play consistently well from January to October was amazing. Actually she had a pretty full end of 2013, back to back Bendigo ITF's and the play-off, so she really needs to rest up for the Aussie Summer. A WTA title next year would be nice. She probably needs one, and to play a bit more during the clay season to push into the top 20 I expect.

There is some up-side for Sam in that she holds a 20ish ranking without any startling results behind her. Whether her form has detoriated because of the foot injury is hard to assess but parts of her game have clearly levelled off. But she is capable of having one or two one off tournament runs and lets hope it's a slam!

Well done to Jarka for getting back into the top 100. She started the year outside the top 200 and at the start of the year was never able to string matches together. She then, did very well on the ITF circuit and gained her form back during the Asian season, pushing Wozniacki to three sets as well as defeating Pennetta easily. It is great to see Jarka back and well on the WTA tour and I predict that 2015 could be a very big year for her, she is not defending much points for the 1st half of the season.

Really looking forward to seeing what Jarka can do in 2015. Hopefully she can finally get the AO win!

#4 OLIVIA ROGOWSKA

Singles Year End Ranking (2014): 131
Singles Year End Ranking (2013): 166
Win-Loss: 30-26
Prize Money: $161,838
ITF titles: 2
ITF doubles titles: 2

Best achievements: R3 doubles at Australian Open, Won singles and doubles ITF Launceston 50k, Won 50k Sacramento, Won 50k doubles Carson
Notable wins: Govortsova (63 64), Pereira (64 60), Jabeur (62 63), Bychkova (36 63 63), Brengle (46 62 62), Crawford (62 64)

Grand Slam results:
Australian Open:

R2 lt. Svitolina 46 57

French Open:
QR1 def. Jabeur 62 63
QR2 def. Savchuk 62 63
QFR lt. Shapatava 63 67(4) 36

Wimbledon:
QR1 lt. Falconi 62 16 57

US Open:
QR1 def. Barrois 64 62
QR2 lt. Siegemund 46 36

Olivia has had a steady year, but never had a consistent run of results. She won her first international singles title as well as cracked the top 100 in doubles and sat at 102 in the singles rankings. Olivia started the year well, scoring R1 wins in Hobart and Melbourne as well as the 50k double title in Launceston. She almost qualified for the French Open, but had a shocker at Wimbledon. She then went on to win a 50k title in the US, as well as qualifying for Washington. She finished the year poorly though, with only scoring 1 win after the US Open. 2014 shows how Olivia will most likely struggle to reach the top 100 in her career.

Anastasia has not played as much singles as we would have liked her to this year. She dropped out of the top 200, even sister Arina had a ranking higher than her for a couple weeks. She then showed us what she still had left on the court when she qualified for the US Open and defeated Giorgi in the first round. She also maintained a steady partnership with Kudryavtseva in doubles, qualifying for the WTA finals and winning 3 titles. It will be interesting to see what Anastasia will do in 2015, whether or not she will continue singles is the big question.

Re: 2014 Player Recap

Dellacqua had a great year, and yes she did have some easy draws, but full credit to her for taking advantage of them! Stosur did well to hang on to her ranking, and really has nothing to defend until the French, so hopefully she can get back in the top 16 by then. Liv on the other hand I can only see going backwards. I think she needs to dump the b/f and start to focus on her tennis more, otherwise she is going to find herself out of the top 200 soon. Especially with a lot of points to defend at the start of the year. Jarmila and Anastasia both have nothing to defend so I hope they can both get off to a good start during the Aussie circuit and get their ranks up higher. I hope Anastasia gets a MD WC for Aust Open, she deserves it.

Everyone thought this was going to be the year for Barty, after qualifying for Brisbane and setting up a R2 clash with Sharapova, injuries troubled her. A tough draw at the Australian Open, drawing #1 Williams haltered Barty's success at her home slam. She then proved she was able to qualify for events, including WTA ones as well as the US Open. After the US Open, Barty announced that she was taking a break from the sport as is still unsure whether or not she will come back to the sport.

Just like her sister, most of her success in 2014 came from doubles. Arina did not achieve much in singles, with numerous number of R1 losses. Arina's success in doubles include a career high doubles ranking as well as 4 ITF titles, 1 125k title and a WTA doubles final. In 2015, I am not expecting much from Arina as she has shown that she will always be a player ranked between 200-300.

We really thought this was going to be Storm's year this year, after starting so well in the Australian events in January, she looked set for the top 200. Niggling injuries and other problems had set Storm back down a level. As you can see in her W/L ratio, she hardly played this year. In January, it looked like she could have been the real deal for the struggling Australian women's tennis, coming considerably close to taking out top 20, Flipkens as well as Giorgi at the Australian Open, but things were not to be when she suffered multiple injuries throughout the year as well as bad form in her Asian, clay and American tour. Hoping that Storm is able to have an injury free 2015 and get back up the ranks where she belongs.
