The ranking system is such a big mess. One big tournament win can pretty much guarantee someone a top 20 ranking for a year these days. Winners just get too many points.

so true LOL  The biggest irony of them all is that the current Nr.2 (miss Sunshine) will probably be on her way out of Top 10 after US Open  That's how big of a mess WTA is nowadays - untill Maria takes over that is of course

Rankings is so messed up it's ridicoulous. What I don't understand is how Sveta is ranked above Maria.

She has a Premier title, and a Premier Mandatory title. And not anymore.

Even Aga is ranked above Masha Weird cuz she's just beaten her twice, Maria is going up the rankings so slowly, she's played so well since strasbourg (well at least outside GS's) and she's only gone up a few spots..

Because Maria chooses to play well at the same time she played well last year
in the beginning of the year, Maria couldve easily racked up 1500points, but she had to get injured/play horrible |
