Tereza is back in action this week, at $25K Netanya. She's seeded #8 and has very winnable R1 and R2 matches. In R1 she plays an unranked local qualifier. In R2 she plays another local, ranked in the 560s.
Tereza started her year in April, ranked in the 780s and is now 327. If she can win two rounds this week she'll move up to ~310. She's not defending any points the rest of this year, so she has an excellent chance to end the year in the top 300 and even break her old CH ranking (279). She reached that in early 2010, before her form derailed inexplicably for several months.
Ugh, rough week for Tereza at $25K Istanbul. She missed the MD cut by one spot. In qualies, as the top seed, she got a bye in R1 but then lost in R2 in a third-set tiebreak: Nadiya KICHENOK (UKR) (15) defeated Tereza MRDEZA (CRO) (1) 6-4 2-6 7-6(3).
She then got into the MD as a LL, drew another LL but lost in yet another third-set tiebreak: Sofia KVATSABAIA (GEO) defeated Tereza MRDEZA (CRO) 2-6 6-3 7-6(3).
I wonder how many people in the history of tennis have lost consecutive matches in third-set tiebreaks in the same tournament?!?
Tereza moves up in the rankings from 329 to 318. She seems to have fallen out of form recently but is still getting closer and closer to her CH ranking of 279. She's not defending any points until April so hopefully she can regain her form and reach a new CH ranking.
Tereza is playing at this week's $25K in Asuncion. It has a pretty weak draw (Tereza is seeded #6) and Tereza herself got a good draw. In R1 she plays Sarmenti, a qualifier ranked 579. Whoever wins will play Zeballos (#410) or another qualifier, Di Biasi (#795).
This is an excellent opportunity for Tereza to pick up at least 14 points. Hope she doesn't blow it!
