Wozniacki's ranking points (52 week ranking):

Code:

Cincinnati 125
Montreal 900
                   ______ ______ ______
SUM 4025 1025 1360
Total points: 4025+1025+1360 = 6410

Caroline's next best tournaments are:
Dubai 125
Rome 125
Warsaw 120

New Haven points (470) will drop off next week. If Caro doesn't reach at lest SF at New Haven, then Rome or Dubai points (125) will replace New Haven in the last column.

Re: Caroline's Ranking Breakdown

Race list as of September 13, 2010:

1 Wozniacki, Caroline DEN 5615 19
2 Williams, Serena USA 5355 12
3 Clijsters, Kim BEL 5295 12
4 Zvonareva, Vera RUS 5173 16
5 Williams, Venus USA 4985 13
6 Stosur, Samantha AUS 4567 15
7 Jankovic, Jelena SRB 4033 17

8 Schiavone, Francesca ITA 3952 19

9 Henin, Justine BEL 3415 10
10 Dementieva, Elena RUS 3327 17
11 Azarenka, Victoria BLR 3196 17
12 Li, Na CHN 3091 18
13 Peer, Shahar ISR 2965 18
14 Radwanska, Agnieszka POL 2831 16

There is a huge after Schiavone (more than 600 points if we ignore Henin, who won't come back this season). This makes it very difficult for Dementieva, Azarenka etc. to reach Doha. They probably need to win or at least reach the final in one of the big tournaments coming up (Tokyo, Beijing) in order to qualify for the Championships.

Its weird that JJ is seventh and yet I dont remember her doing very much this year (except for the semi at RG). I just would find it weird if neither Vika or Elena qualified. Vika has had some very bad luck this year with injuries but when she hasnt been injured (or concussed) shes played great e.g. Stanford and Eastbourne. I think Elena's problem has been a bit psychological this year, I think losing to Henin (boo!) in Melbourne really threw her mentally, especially because it was 2nd rnd. And then she got injured at RG which was very disappointing.

I guess I just have a soft spot for the two of them...lol

JJ won the Premier Mandatory event Indina Wells by beating Caro 62 64 in the final. This gave her 1000 points alone. This is a bigger tournamnet than Caro has ever won. (Caro's biggest career title is the Permier 5 event Rogers Cup which gave her 900 points all of Caro's other 9 career WTA titles have only come from the lowest WTA level events which is International events).
JJ also reached the final of the Permier 5 event in Rome and made the quaters of the Premier Mandatory event in Madrid.

Yeah that's right. Should have said all her victories besides Montreal are below Premier 5 level.
A Premier 5 title gives 900 points while a Premier title is only worth 470 points.

I hate the way WTA name the different levels, Premier mandatory, Premier 5, Premier and International. How many different Premier levels do they need? They should do like ATP and name them atfter the ranking points for tthe winner like ATP Masters 1000 (golden logo), ATP 500 (silver logo), ATP 250 (white logo).

It would also be simpler to follow for fans if ATP and WTA agreed to use the same system.

Re: Caroline's Ranking Breakdown

Question.

The WTA takes last year's YEC points off the week before this year's YEC starts right? So, Caro could be #1 for the week of the champs, if she picks up some more points in Beijing or Tokyo?

Yes, at least that's what happened a year ago.

To become a world no. 1 at the end of the season is in fact Caro's main objective for the rest of the season according to a Danish paper today. But it will be difficult because Zvonareva and Clijsters are not far behind Caro, and they have even less points to defend for the rest of the season. And Venus can also be a new #1 although she has a final at Doha to defend.

According to the entry lists Zvonareva plans to play Tokyo, Beijing and Moscow before Doha. Clijsters and Venus only plan to play Beijing.

Re: Caroline's Ranking Breakdown

If we remove the Doha 2009 points from the rankings, then the top 5 will look like this:

1 Williams, Serena 5495
2 Zvonareva, Vera 5480
3 Wozniacki, Caroline 5380
4 Clijsters, Kim 5325
5 Williams, Venus 5066

I still think it's possible for all of these to be a world #1 on the rankings to be published Monday 25th of October (although it's a bit harder for Venus and Kim since they only play Beijing). It will be quite exciting to see how it turns out in the end!

There's a great risk, however, that the new #1 going into Doha will only hold that spot for a week, since there's a lot of points at stake at Doha!

Cool, thank you.

I want Caro to get the #1 ranking. It would be a good way to cap off a fantastic year.

i some what want Caro to stay at #2. Being #1 w/o a grand slam is not meaningful.
