Re: Caroline's Ranking Breakdown

In tomorrow's rankings, Caro will be just 55 points behind Bartoli. Caro has 370 points to defend the rest of the season, Bartoli 305. If Bartoli doesn't get to play in Istanbul, Caro can pass her with a good showing in Sofia.

Re: Caroline's Ranking Breakdown

Can someone calculate: if Stosur doesn't get to play in Istanbul and her 530 points from YEC 11 come off, can Caro then pass her in the rankings if she wins Sofia?
The difference between being #9 instead of #10 is not immediately important, but then you'd only need one withdrawal for Caro to be QF seed at AO.

No, Caro can't pass Stosur in the rankings if she wins Sofia. Even if Caro wins Sofia while going undefeated in round robin play she'd still be 235 points behind in the rankings.

Caro has to make it the final of Sofia undefeated in round robin play or win Sofia (regardless of win-loss record in round robin play) in order to finish the season at #10. That's assuming that Bartoli doesn't play at the YEC.

Re: Caroline's Ranking Breakdown

As Bartoli has 120 as her 16th best, she can play 1 match in YEC, and Caro will be No. 10 with a Sofia Finale?

As a new entry to YEC (compared to 2011) does it matter with her 16th, as YEC is allowed to count as a 17th tournament ..?

I.e Bartoli will keep her 16th AND get the points from YEC.

No, I has asked about it, the 16 best results counts after both YEC's.

Yes, Caro would still finish at #10 in that scenario. If Bartoli were to win that match then Caro would need to win Sofia probably undefeated in round robin play (I'm not sure what the tiebreak is if two players have the same amount of points which is what would happen if Caro won Sofia with a 2-1 round robin record).

just a small correction: Indian Wells - 140 points.

#16 : 200 point
#17 : 175 point (OG)

Meaning: She is not defending any points before Aus. Open (500 points), and she will have to reach the finals in Brisbane and/or Sydney to increase her current total: 3765points.

Caro was 10th in points per tournament played among the top 50 at the end of the 2012 season. For comparison, Caro was 5th in points per tournament played among the top 50 last year, 4 below her year end ranking of 1. The Wta includes 0 point results in the rankings so I excluded the 0 point results to come up with points per tournament played.

I'll probably look into doing a weighted average of points per tournament at some point. If someone else wants to do that, feel free to do so.

Caro's 16th best result in her "best 16" ranking is 200 points, so Caro has to earn more than that at non-mandatory tournaments in order to increase her ranking points. Results at mandatory tournaments are stuck in Caro's ranking until she plays that tournament again next year.

Caro won 70% (50-21) of her matches in 2012 as of the end of the season.

Caro was 12th in winning % for the season for players ranked inside the top 100 based on Wta level events only. She was 11th if you count only players ranked inside the top 50.

(I corrected the Wta win/loss rankings document that came out at the end of the season to be based on winning % as the rankings were sometimes not ordered that way in the original file.)

Code:

Caro is 9th in points per tournament played among the YEC race top 50 after Miami. For comparison, Caro was 10th in points per tournament played among the top 50 last year, the same as her year end ranking of 10.

Caro has won 65% (15-8) of her matches in 2013 as of the end of Miami.

Caro is 21st in winning % for the year for players ranked inside the top 100 based on Wta level events only. She is 16th if you count only players ranked inside the top 50. Caro is 21st in winning % for the year among the YEC race top 50.

(I corrected the Wta win/loss rankings document that came out after Miami to be based on winning % as the rankings were sometimes not ordered that way in the original file.)
