Who can be Maria's next coach?

discuss.

Sometimes it seems to me that Maria needs new coaches at least annually as a new coach can give her a few months of success just becuase of extrta motivation which always happen after such changes.

So what are the options?

Is Carlos Rodriguez available ?

Ricardo Sanchez? He made some magic with Nadia when they were working together

It seems, but she won't fire SVEN. He is too much fangirl of her and all girls like it.

It's Max , who fires. Maria's management won't allow her to suck, I'm quite sure they can dissmiss her boyfriends and friends (if neccessary for her success)

Carlos Rodriguez stopped working with Li Na because he couldn't travel with her anymore so that he could dedicate his time to his academy in Beijing. So, no, he's not available. Plus, Maria ain't firing Sven anytime soon, and I'm not sure she should. A coach can only do so much, the rest is up to the player. Although he doesn't seem like a tough love kind of guy, which is what Maria needs atm IMO

Re: Who can be Maria's next coach?

I really wanna know what went down between her and Hogstedt. Because the form she showed in the first half of last year would have dominated the tour this year.

Agreed on both counts. Seems like Maria got restless with Hoggy for some reason. Part of me thinks it was her wanting to find someone that could help her beat Serena and that she took that RG final loss hard. I dunno though... I can kind of see how she'd think the Connors pairing could've been a great success but then when that was a bad pairing she came down to earth and got a standard, "run-of-the-mill" coach. Guesswork though.
2013 Maria would be number 1 right now potentially

Her desire to be competetive with Vika and Serena. Masha that time was looping her forehand and was bossed around by all ballbashers on non-clay surface and absolutely helpless on grass. As a result with Sven she lost in addition that consistency. So with Hoggy she was flopping on big stages like SF and Finals, now she is just a journeywomen even in early rounds.

Re: Who can be Maria's next coach?

She's not firing Sven. I know you guys want her to win all the time, but you just need to appreciate that she's playing at all. Maria is getting older. She's not athletic, and this may be the beginning of the downhill slide of her career. That said. I think she's just in a rut. She needs wins to gain more confidence. Outside of clay and Miami, she hasn't won more than three matches in a row all season.

It's not about aging , she is not moving slower than before or her reflexes deteriorating. She just completely lost any plot about how to play on hardcourts and is either crazy ballbashing or pushing. No tactics, no techniques.

Do you remember Nadia Petrova playing her best tennis when Ricardo Sanchez was her coach and how she flopped after breaking up with him. Coach can have an immense influence on players game.

Re: Who can be Maria's next coach?

Sven is deffinitely the wrong choice (I am repeating myself like a broken record), but IMO Carlos Rodriguez is not suitable for her either.

Re: Who can be Maria's next coach?

IMO the main problem is that she treats Sven as a good friend and someone who give her a good laugh and create relaxed atmosphere. He doesn't have an authority over her. He's not that kind of coach like Yuri or Hoggy, he's more relaxed, he's more into having a good fun. And I think it's bad for her. She needs discipline and bigger distance in a relation: coach and player.(Assuming she still wants to be a top player).
That's kind of relation is very comfortable for her and I don't think she will ever consider a coaching change.

He said "more than 3 matches in a row" so that's correct, only Miami, Stuttgart, Madrid and RG.
