The way the "original" Grand Slam cup worked, was that the 8 finalists in Grand Slams got direct entry.
However, if one player made more than one final, then you would do a point system, which I'm not sure how it worked.
All I remember is Mirjana Lucic being the alternate one year and she got $50,000 for that in 1999

Here are a tentative seedings:
1. Larisa Ferrer
2. Marteena Huubere
3. Ruflina Talianmonosko
4. Tanya Hingis
Selima Valentine*
* = will qualify regardless, Australian Open champion
Others looking to fill the remaining 3 spots (with best chances so far) include: Monica de la cal, Bryanne Applegate, Brenda Van Haak, Regla Torres, Gisele Noventz, Rosie Ribbons
Any of those 6 can seal a spot with a strong performance at the US Open, or some others could still also qualify if they have had consistent results in the other 3 slams.
Happy hunting

deftman: Australian Open finalist, Wimbledon quarterfinalist
Like I said this is very very tentative, US Open is still coming up, and I haven't even done the points for EVERYONE, this is only for those most likely to qualify, i.e. consistent slam results.
Since the tourney's in December I have a lot of time.
I may increase the draw to 16 anyway, which was the way the men had it, to make it more interesting.
