TBH everyone in the top five has an excellent shot at #1 for various periods this year. Maybe even Dementieva too if a few more players retire.  |

I would like her to be number 1, but not just yet. She won't win RG cuz you know Elena is on fire and it's about time she wins a grand slam, but hey maybe she can win Wimbledon. Good luck JJ

She can do it with a final if Maria doesn't reach QF and the winner is neither Ana nor Sveta. I hope it doesn't happen that way, though...
Also she needs to beat someone other than Maria in the final...

Well, this is what numbers say for the best five players until the end of the year:
Player | Current Points | To defend | Difference
------------------------------------------------
Sharapova | 4181 | 1926 | 2255
Ivanovic | 3922 | 2252 | 1670
Jankovic | 3755 | 2042 | 1713
Kuznetsova | 3365 | 2135 | 1230
Serena W. | 2836 | 1161 | 1675
Clearly, it will depend on how much Serena is willing to play.
Numbers favor Sharapova whereas Kuznetsova is in the worst position.
Other than that, Ivanovic, Jankovic and Serena are at very similar numbers  . |

she'll never be no.1 in her entire career. maybe no.1 in drama queen or no.1 in doing the splits... but wait... even in this category she's not the no.1, I think Kim is ahead of her because she managed to do the splits and place the ball INSIDE the court.
