Maria lost to Kovinic in the SF but at least she (with Ana Vrljic) won another doubles $25K:

Podgorica R1: Maria ABRAMOVIC (CRO) defeated Antonela SUSAK (CRO) 6-3 6-2

Not in doubt but, still, it's good that Maria got an easy R1 opponent, to pick up 8 points.

Her Sarajevo result last week will give her a nice bump up in the rankings, from 523 to ~470. Today's win will lift her to ~440-445.

Maria and her partner, Clerico, are into the Podgorica SF. Maria, who's up to #219 in doubles, has won her last nine doubles matches and two tournaments ($25K Bad Saulgau with Clerico and $25K Sarajevo with Vrljic).

Keep going, Maria--perhaps this can develop into a WTA doubles career!

Podgorica R2: Maria ABRAMOVIC (CRO) defeated Corinna DENTONI (ITA) (1) 5-7 6-3 6-3

In the QF she plays unseeded Nowak (#418), which is definitely winnable. Unfortunately, it's hard to expect much from Maria. Twice this summer, she beat the #1 seed in R2 only to lose in the QF (Imola: beat #1 Chakhnashvili in straights, then lost to De Lattre; Les Contamines: destroyed Siegemund 61 61 then lost to Shinikova).

Excluding $10Ks, I think this is her first SF since Nov. 2007

She next plays Kovinic, who has been playing very well lately and beat Maria easily two weeks ago, 61 62

Maria has a nice jump in the rankings this week, from 523 to 467.

Sadly, she's still far from her CH ranking of 284, from almost four years ago

She also went up from 219 to 206 in doubles.

Maria is into yet another ITF doubles SF, this time in Zagreb:

R1: ABRAMOVIC (CRO) / BUZARNESCU (ROU) (2) defeated BANOVEC (CRO) / BEKAVAC (CRO) 6-3 6-2
QF: ABRAMOVIC (CRO) / BUZARNESCU (ROU) (2) defeated KLEPIC (CRO) / SUSAK (CRO) 6-0 6-1
SF: DENTONI (ITA) / MIJACIKA (CRO) Vs ABRAMOVIC (CRO) / BUZARNESCU (ROU) (2)

This is her 11th doubles SF this year and 6 in a row. She's making a nice doubles career for herself. That said, I wonder why she didn't play singles qualies this week...?

Nice jump up in the singles rankings this week for Maria, from 467 to 404. She's just one good result away from the top 400.

In doubles, she broke into the top 200 and reached a new CH ranking! She went from 206 to 182.

Maria is at her CH ranking in doubles (#181) this week. Congrats! She has worked hard over the past year and it's paying off.

And her good results continue. She and Hrdinova are into the SF of $50K Kansas City (32 pts). Unfortunately she's defending 40 pts this week so she won't reach a new CH ranking yet but she will if she wins her next match. That'll be against either KARATANTCHEVA/OPRANDI or SCHOLL/SOTNIKOVA (both unseeded teams). Good luck!

Maria and Hrdinova won their SF match against Scholl/Sotnikova 60 76(5). Excellent result for Maria--and she'll reach a new CH ranking in doubles next week

In the final they will play the winner of FINK/SCHNACK and HAMPTON/TOMLJANOVIC.
