Re: Marija Abramovic
Marija continues her consistent but painfully slow move up the rankings. This week she moves up from 600 to 581.

Re: Marija Abramovic
Maria is the #7 seed at Hvar. In R1 she destroyed Amandine Hesse 60 60. Hesse is ranked only #646 but has a juniors CH ranking of #38 (in 2009).
In R2 Maria plays Jasmina Kajtazovic (#717). Good luck, Maria!

Re: Marija Abramovic
^^ Wow, this doesn't seem like much, but it's only the second time that she's ever double bageled someone with a ranking. And the last time she's done that was back in November of '06, against a player ranked inside low 1300's! So credit to Maria even if it's just a win on a 10k.
Btw, in two weeks time that strong challenger in Lebanon, for which she always gets a wild-card, is coming up. Nice to see her finding some form in time for that (assuming she gets a WC again).
Good luck in R2 Maria, Kajtazovic lost to a Croat last week, why not do it again

Re: Marija Abramovic
M. Abramovic def. Kajtazovic 6:4, 1:6, 6:4
Maria marches on Hope she doesn't stop now, but it'll be tough to beat the 2nd seed E. Mayr (currently #399, c-h #301).
Good luck!

Re: Marija Abramovic
(2) E. Mayr def. (7) M. Abramovic 6:4, 7:6. A shame she lost, but it's encouraging to see another competitive result against a solid opponent. All in all, looks like Maria is slowly but surely getting back on track.

Re: Marija Abramovic
With all the fuss about the French Open and some of our girls doing good in singles on other tournaments, we didn't even notice that Marija won another doubles title, teamed up with S. Werner in Velenje 10k, where they, as the top seeds, lost just 1 set in three matches (1st round bye) to take the title. In the finals they beat the 4th seeds Raickovic/Zafirova 6:4, 6:4.
Hope Marija can keep up the form, cause soon some nice points are coming off from her ranking, those earned for reaching the semis of a 25k in Sarajevo.
Anyway, well done girls!

Re: Marija Abramovic
Marija (seeded 13th) took advantage of a relatively week quali draw in Rome - Tevere Remo 25k to go through to FQR by beating a local, never ranked 21 y.o., it was 6:0, 6:3. But to make it to the main draw she'll have to do more, to be more precise she'll have to beat the 5th seed of qualies, Gledacheva, against whom she never played before. Gledacheva is ranked 439, and was even some two dozen spots higher about 10 weeks ago. In case of a win, it would be Marija's best one in several months.
Good luck

Re: Marija Abramovic
Marija qualified ( ) by beating Gledacheva 6:2, 4:6, 6:3 and will play the 7th seed Ormaechea (WTA 230, two spots lower than her c-h) in R1. It's a tough draw, but she already made a decent result (considering her recent singles form) by qualifying. Let's hope she can keep it going. Marija will also play doubles here: (3) Abramovic/Thorpe vs. Akita/Schaefer in R1.
Give it your best Marija!

Re: Marija Abramovic
She lost, but at least she gave it a good fight - 6:2, 3:6, 6:2. Hope she does better in doubles.

Re: Marija Abramovic
Marija is still in Italy, this week she's trying to qualify for a 100k in Cuneo, where she'll also play in the main draw of doubles. After a secure win in QR1 against some unranked girl, she made quite a result in the next round, by taking out the 8th seed Rottmann (currently at a c-h #422), it was 0 & 2 For a place in the final, however, she'll face a much tougher opponent, the 4th seeded Tinjic. Their only previous encounter, played 4 years ago in Zagreb, was won by Tinjic in three. Best of luck Marija!
Also, in doubles she and Dominikovic will play the 3rd seeds Bovina/Vedy, so not an easy draw. Would be nice if she could make another solid doubles result (after semis on a 25k last week), and winning even a match here would already qualify for a solid result.

Re: Marija Abramovic
Qualifiers have been placed: Marija plays Camerin
The good news is that Marija and her partner won their R1 doubles match, beating the #3 seeds: ABRAMOVIC (CRO) / DOMINIKOVIC (AUS) defeated BOVINA (RUS) / VEDY (FRA) (3) 2-6 6-2 [10-1]. That should lift her ranking by 30-40 spots, into the top 250.
In the QF they play RUS / YAKIMOVA. Good luck--but this is already a successful tournament for Marija.
PS: I just noticed that her name, at least for WTA/ITF purposes, is "Maria."

Re: Marija Abramovic
Cuneo doubles QF: RUS (NED) / YAKIMOVA (BLR) defeated ABRAMOVIC (CRO) / DOMINIKOVIC (AUS) 6-1 2-6 [16-14]
So close Maria must be so disappointed. The points would have meant so much to her.

Re: Marija Abramovic
Maria got a MD WC for Imola 25k this week, in R1 she'll play Clerico, who defeated her in their only previous meeting, back in '04 (Maria actually got trashed in that one, it ended 1 & 0). So there's a chance for a revenge Clerico is almost 100 spots below her best ever ranking of 381, so she's obviously not in the greatest form. In fact, she won just 1 of her last 8 matches in singles and 1 out of 5 in doubles, so this certainly looks like a chance for Maria to go through. Unfortunatelly, the winner of this will most probably play the top seed (Chakhnashvili) in R2.
Marija teamed up with Clerico for doubles as well, they are the top seeds and got a bye into the quarters.
Good luck Maria!
