Well, I agree that it's not plesant to see this result, but this Rebersak girl was a top500 player, qualified for this event (i.e. played and adapted to conditions) and is a few years older than Silvia, at 23. So all in all, I'm writing this off to inexperience.
Silvia is in the semis of doubles(!). She and Savinykh beat Abramovic sisters in three tight sets, to set up a clash against Auroux/Zoric next. BTW, funny thing in this tournament is that the top 4 seeds of doubles reached the semis.
Silvia is playing at the $10K in Algiers this week. I'm glad to see that she's willing to travel to unglamorous locations to play in the smallest tournaments. Hopefully she'll be able to build her pro game from the very bottom.
Oh, and she won R1 in both singles and doubles:
Singles: Silvia NJIRIC (CRO) (6) defeated Imane TOUBAL (ALG) 6-1 6-0. Plays Pamela AMON next, an unranked almost-20 year-old.
Doubles: ALLAN (GBR) / NJIRIC (CRO) (3) defeated HIRSCH (AUT) / PETRAS (BUL) 6-1 7-5. They play AMON (AUT) / KONIG (AUT) next.
