Tofu is not bad for you if it is made in the traditional Asian way and eaten in small quantities. Problem is that Western manufacturers are putting soy into all kinds of products, in ways it probably was never intended to be used, and thats the first sign that you should avoid it.

I dont think whole wheat bread products are that bad, Europeans have been baking them for centuries, just dont eat too much of them.

Re: GET IN SHAPE THREAD: Weight-loss, Dieters, and Exercise-enthusiast

god this video is so long, it's annoying come on, gimme these foods, I DONT CARE ABOUT BLABLA

"I am about to reveal" 10 mn later "I am going to say.."

FINALLY

- Margarine : well duh
Hormonal imbalance ? gimme a break. There's not only food. I don't consume it but it's useful to bake cakes.

- sugar : duuuuuuh
"to never eat" ? No.
Oh in hidden places : dressed salads (already knew it), muffins (duh), "low fat" food (already knew it), "healthy" cereals (that too) . It's like these low cal sodas, I don't trust them, I don't buy them.

Enough sleep? How many? I sleep 7hours.

- Whole wheat bread : lol my mom would be like "TOLD YOU SO". She keeps preaching me to avoid bread in diets because "it's fattening, except not many people know it, trust me, I am a diet maniac"
Bagels, pasta, muffins : OF COUUUUUUUURSE but not going to get rid of them forever. (especially pasta, it's so cheap for a student like me )
Crackers ? they were "healthy" to people? Really? I've always thought (and knew) it was fattening.

Riiiiiiight endorsing physical ativity. I mean, I think a moderate physical activity and playing a sport also might be enough, and I don't think it's healthy either to stop eating forever that fattening stuff.
Cortisol level.. well hard to avoid mental stress, life often gets in the way. And it's quite bs, I know some people who lost a lot of weight under loads of stress : my brother. Now that things are better, h gained back weight and is now fit. He doesn't have time to do sports though, but no belly fat at all.. so their stress stuff is not always true.

Breathe to reset our stress level? LOL ok

- processed soy : where can we find it? I never eat soy stuff
Microwavable meals

Anyway Imma stop these meals, I've got an oven Maybe that will make a big difference in weight without even trying.

- orange juice : lol duuuuuuuuh
I prefer pressing fruits myself and drinking them. Sure they contain sugar, but it's more natural than these fruit juices sold in shops. Anyway I am a coffee stan, so I don't feel too concerned by that food.

So I sometimes eat margarine, sugar (of course like everyone) and a lot of bread. That's the french way to go !

Re: GET IN SHAPE THREAD: Weight-loss, Dieters, and Exercise-enthusiast

Ok Mélange, gotta show you these snacks :

WE LOVE THAT IN FRANCE !!! In the region of Lyon (god help me next year, my second choice of studies is Lyon, and its the gastronomic capital of France), that's extremely popular.

Kill me It's sooooooo fattening but I love that

my favourite Pringles flavour

"Apéritif" is a French word derived from the Latin verb aperire, which means “to open.”

In France, the apéritif varies from region to region : pastis is popular in the south of France, Calvados brandy in the Normandy region, Crémant d'Alsace in the eastern region. Champagne wine or Cognac may also be served. Kir, also called « Blanc-cassis », is a common and very popular apéritif-cocktail made with a measure of crème de cassis (blackcurrant liqueur) topped up with white wine. The word Kir Royal is used when white wine is replaced with a Champagne wine. A simple glass of red wine, such as Beaujolais nouveau, can also be presented as an apéritif, accompanied by amuse-bouches.

Pastis is great in summer, got drunk once with Pastis. Crémant d'Alsace is lovely too. Kirs are very popular too. Rosé wine, kirs, or red wine...

Cheese is very present in the apéritifs too...

(already did apéros with cakes, not olive cake, but salmon cake, red pepper cake with goat cheese... curry with chicken cake..)

So yeah, it's not new to you guys, but the apéritif is a tradition here, especially in summer and in december/january during the holidays of Christmas and New Year Eve.

Tonight, there's an apero

Re: GET IN SHAPE THREAD: Weight-loss, Dieters, and Exercise-enthusiast

They all look quite tasty. Do you eat the salami raw? The video said that raw nuts are healthy so you can eat more of the pistachio I like the cheese Pringles, its got this cheesy taste thats not natural, but its addictive. I ate most of the tube once

the blackcurrant wine sounds good. olive cake? is that a butter cake with salty olive taste? do you have vol au vents as apéritif ?

i dont understand why margarine would be used instead of butter. it used to be thought of as healthier because it had less animal fat, but now we know that trans fats are poison

Yes salami raw is
Yes but the pistachio is fattening, 600 cal/100g
Oh yes the cheese Pringles is great

Well you bake a butter cake with olives, I don't bake them, I hate olives.

!!!!!!!

Well, I use it in cakes because of the salt, I don't like to add too much salt which is bad for health if over dosed. Also it's cheaper it seems. Anyway butter is as fattening as margarine so....

The cakes with savoury filling must be a French thing, but I have never seen it before. You had cake with curry chicken? How about a pizza cake?

Your Body Type - Ectomorph, Mesomorph or Endomorph?

Before you can start along a path toward your fitness goals you must first know which body type you are. Each body type metabolizes food differently and each is effected differently by nutrition and exercise.

ECTOMORPH

An ectomorph is a typical skinny guy. Ecto’s have a light build with small joints and lean muscle. Usually ectomorph’s have long thin limbs with stringy muscles. Shoulders tend to be thin with little width.

Typical traits of an ectomorph:

Small “delicate” frame and bone structure
Classic “hardgainer”
Flat chest
Small shoulders
Thin
Lean muscle mass
Finds it hard to gain weight
Fast metabolism

Ectomorphs find it very hard to gain weight. They have a fast metabolism which burns up calories very quickly. Ecto’s need a huge amount of calories in order to gain weight. Workouts should be short and intense focusing on big muscle groups. Supplements are definitely recommended. Ectomorphs should eat before bed to prevent muscle catabolism during the night. Generally, ectomorphs can lose fat very easily which makes cutting back to lean muscle easier for them.

MESOMORPH

A mesomorph has a large bone structure, large muscles and a naturally athletic physique. Mesomorphs are the best body type for bodybuilding. They find it quite easy to gain and lose weight. They are naturally strong which is the perfect platform for building muscle.

Typical traits on a Mesomorph:

Athletic
Hard body with well defined muscles
Rectangular shaped body
Strong
Gains muscle easily
Gains fat more easily than ectomorphs
The mesomorph body type responds the best to weight training. Gains are usually seen very quickly, especially for beginners. The downside to mesomorphs is they gain fat more easily than ectomorphs. This means they must watch their calorie intake. Usually a combination of weight training and cardio works best for mesomorphs.

ENDOMORPH

The endomorph body type is solid and generally soft. Endomorphs gain fat very easily. Endo’s are usually of a shorter build with thick arms and legs. Muscles are strong, especially the upper legs. Endomorphs find they are naturally strong in leg exercises like the squat.

Typical traits of an Endomorph:

Soft and round body
Gains muscle and fat very easily
Is generally short and “stocky”
Round physique
Finds it hard to lose fat
Slow metabolism

When it comes to training endomorphs find it very easy to gain weight. Unfortunately, a large portion of this weight is fat not muscle. To keep fat gain to a minimum, endomorphs must always train cardio as well as weights. Usually supplements may not be needed as long as the person has a high protein intake in their diet.

A combination of body types.

These body types aren’t set in stone. In fact, most guys have a combination of two body types. These combinations are either ectomorph/mesomorph or mesomorph/endomorph. It is not uncommon to find a pure mesomorph that gains weight like an endomorph for example.

So which body type are you?

Given the information above you should be able to identify your body type. You may also want to optimize your diet and training to suit your body type.

One final point I want to mention is that no matter what your body type you can build a big, ripped, muscular physique. Even the skinniest of guys can bulk up. Yes, it’s harder but if you’re willing to put in the hard work it can be done. I have about the skinniest natural build possible and at the time of writing this article I have gained about 30kg (66lbs) of lean muscle mass.

Re: GET IN SHAPE THREAD: Weight-loss, Dieters, and Exercise-enthusiast

^What's my type? Noone can fit...

I am short, a bit chubby (at my thinnest, I can have a flat stomach and totally normal hips, but still "nice" thights and Ivanovic-esque cheeks, and big boobs).
I easily get fat (but given my lack of exercise and the way I can eat/drink too much , I am quite lucky I am merely "a bit chubby" tbh) but I easily lose weight.

What's my type?

PS :

my size (hips) is 8 (UK) and 6 (US). At my thinnest I CAN fit into size 4 (US) size 6 (UK).
I am 157 cm, and yeah... Also, boobs can be annoying to fit into clothes, like bath clothes ... the top has to be bigger than the bottom which is ANNOYING if I wanna buy a bikini.

Re: GET IN SHAPE THREAD: Weight-loss, Dieters, and Exercise-enthusiast

I've lost about 10kg and 3 inches around my waist. I don't care about the kilos because I'm not a weight watcher but the waist thing is amazing. I'm now a 31 inch waist. Went down about two slots on the belt.

How did I do this? This is going to sound silly but I heard an interview where Anne Hathaway asked Hugh Jackman how to best get shredded for Catwoman and apparently he told her to run every morning for about 45 minutes before breakfast and the first thing you do as you wake up.

I'm NOT a morning person. NEVER have been. I started doing this about 3 weeks ago and I've been doing this everyday since. Of course, this isn't the only thing. I eat three meals a day (I watch what I eat especially for dinner) and limit snacks to just fruits. Dinner is around 6-7pm and after that I don't eat anymore.

I drink coffee now only at breakfast, unless on the weekends or something when I'm out with friends. I'm sleeping better around 10pm and waking up around 6am. It's like I've become a morning person.

I just hope to keep it up but the switch has been remarkably easy and I haven't had too huge a shift in diet. Although, of course, I don't eat any junk food or fast food.

I'm not even doing weights at the moment. Once I start doing that my metabolism is going to go crazy. But I might just limit that to once a week.

Pretty good eh? Worth a try. But everyone's different but I can tell you it's worked wonders for me. It's not a dietary change but a lifestyle change. I don't know how I ever survived without running in the mornings now.

Playing tennis is working wonders. I see some muscle tone in my thighs or the first time in...forever . I'm still negotiating with the belly .
