Re: Agnieszka Radwanska WTA rank

Martin, I am not sure how to understand your post...

Is your browser display not UTF-8, and you can't see non Latin glyphs? Today such a behavior would be regarded as strange. I use Firefox and occasionally Microsoft's Explorer, and both display all the glyphs by default, even the Georgian glyphs in Anna Chakvetadze (ანა ჩაკვეტაძე), and the Chinese characters in Lǐ Nà (李娜) and Zhèng Jié (鄭潔).

If you don't use some ancient operating system, you should be seeing all the glyphs properly displayed. Do you see something different?

What do you see? PM me a screenshot.

But then you shouldn't be seeing Cyrillic letters in your own post:

Its not a browser/operating system but language settings... I cant see the chinese letters on my us laptop where I have set up polish language in the option - I cannot see them nether on IE or FF... but on my deskop, bought in uk where I didnt bother to set up polish language/keyboard I can see the without any problem on both browsers...

No this can't be 'language settings' -- do the following experimentt: on your desktop purchased in UK change the locale to Polish. This will change a lot of things, including the keybord map but your browser, and Notepad will still properly display texts, and filenames, in Unicode containing Cyrillic, Greek, Arabic, Hebrew, Chinese glyphs.

Believe me. And this has nothing to do with keyboard settings: I wrote my own keyboard modules under Windows XP, and Windows Vista, so that I can type anything in any Central European Language (any), and when necessary rotate with a single key pressing between 5 different keyboard maps allowing me to type at ease also in any Romance and Nordic language, or Cyrillic, Arabic, Classical Greek (with all the complex combinations of polytonic accents, breathings, and iota subscripts).

If you see white (or black squares) this means only one thing: that you don't have necessary fonts installed. On Windows XP and Windows Vista this wouldn't be possible because the level of internationalization is very good by default. This was a priority for Microsoft in order to gain World wide dominance.

My laptop is one of the least expensive Compaq's with Windows Vista. I use only default fonts and everything is nicely displayed. The Tennis Forum server informs the browsers that postings are UTF-8 encoded, so the encoding is not a problem.

If you have the original Operating System installation CD you can install additional fonts. In international environment you really need good glyph coverage. Starting from Windows XP (and maybe even Windows 2000), Microsoft default fonts like Arial, Courier, Times New Roman, Palatino automatically cover enormous variety of glyphs, including basically all European languages, Hebrew, Arabic, even Chinese. I strongly recommend that you install these missing fonts in order to have your browser, Notepad, and other programs, properly displaying text. Do this as soon as possible.

I'm on a Mac running OS X Tiger here and I can view all of the fonts (Cyrillic, Asian, etc.).

I don't want to disappoint you, but it looks very likely that they used obsolete fonts when the glyph coverage was limited a single plane of 256 glyphs. These are leftovers from the Windows 85/98 era, and they are freely available. If you got such fonts installed and your Operating System is XP or Vista, then you were cheated.

dont think this is a case as I bought my laptop in usa with original xp... the only difference I set up at the beginning is this language option (i wanted to be able to type polish letter with alt IYKWIM) and I didnt bother with it when I bought my deskop in UK with XP again...

Anyway it doesn't bother me and I can read it so be back to Aga... another close by is out Hantuchova... so Aga is staying in Top 10 for awhile?

Displaying properly glyphs has absolutely nothing to do with keyboard settings, believe me. My keyboard maps also use GrAlt combinations to type diacritics, this is how I type ń, ć, č, ř, and all the others. Displaying properly glyphs depends only on the availability of the corresponding fonts to the corresponding applications (web browsers, Notepad, etc).

Well, displaying properly glyphs ceased generally to be a problem several years ago. Anybody experiencing problems can contact me by PM.

Re: Agnieszka Radwanska WTA rank

omg. Vera had such an easy draw and she lost in the 2nd round!

I hope Aga won't blow it. Perfect chance for getting 9 in ranking and she can get away in Race ranking as well. Good luck!

Re: Agnieszka Radwanska WTA rank

Just shows what kind of mediocre form Zvonareva has been all the Summer, including the Olympics (the tears are for the opportunity wasted by Agnieszka whose mind instead of Olympics was probably focused on Now I realize that this smiley was created with Agnieszka in mind).

Agnieszka has a chance of returning back to #9 but she must beat Cibulková, and that is not going to be easy. Look how hard her route up is going to be:

Cibulková -> Venus Williams -> Serena Williams (harder even than Safina's hard draw at the Roland Garros).

Re: Agnieszka Radwanska WTA rank

I'm really, really anxious to see how Aga does tomorrow. I hope there will be a feed. As shown by yesterday, the score-line doesn't indicate a player's form, and I want to see if Aga has improved from yesterday.

OT, I'm really not happy Zvonareva lost. I somehow had her getting to the semis of my racquet bracket.
