Re: Lesley Kerkhove

Re: Lesley Kerkhove
Kwalificatie $ 10.000 Albufeira:
1e ronde Ofri Lankri(ISR, -) 6-2 6-3
2e ronde Alice Savoretti (ITA, -) 6-4 6-4
3e ronde Simona Lulia Matei (ROU, 641) 1-0 ret.
4e ronde Liudmila Nikoyan (ARM, 748) 3-6 6-2 4-6
Volgende week in Portimao.

Re: Lesley Kerkhove
Best aardig.

Re: Lesley Kerkhove
Why is she still playing juniors? Isn't she 18 already? She should play ITFs!

She will be 18 in November. But yes, I agree. In March/April she changed her schedule.
She was on the list for 10k tournaments in Turkey which she cancelled probably to play the junior events in April/May. It was not like she couldn't play these because of an injury.
She chooses the junior events over the 10k tournaments of Apeldoorn, Alkmaar & Rotterdam in June. I was surprised to see that they were not in her schedule. She would surely get a WC for those and hopefully earn some points for her ranking (which is now 1.024 due to the 8 points she earned in August/September '08 in Enschedé, Vlaardingen & Alphen a/d Rijn).
Maybe she wants to go for the top10 in juniors and get the JE ?
Hopefully Kiki, Quirine, Richel will be playing senior events (again) very soon.

Re: Lesley Kerkhove
I really don't get why the Dutch are so hooked up on the junior events? Why not give them some more experience in the 10k's?

Yes, I know she was meant to play ITFs and what her ranking is. That didn't answer my question of WHY she is still playing juniors? What's the point? It would be much better if she played the ITFs. And to not play the 3 ITFs in NL to play juniors is just Top 10 in juniors will be hard to get I think.

Re: Lesley Kerkhove
That is the problem. I don't think any of us get it.
Why change your schedule and instead of cancelling the ITF events, cancel the junior events of April? And use 10k as preperation for this Grand Slam? It is understandeble she wants to play Roland Garros, but she doesn't have to play 3 junior events prior to that? Not playing the Dutch 10k's in June would be weird They would have been great tournaments for her to try to earn some points. Hopefull she will change her schedule again and add these tournaments
But the Dutch girls seem to start playing ITF-events very late. I mean, Richel has never played a senior event and Quirine only 2 in Holland last year. Kiki Bertens also has not played a single ITF event this year. Probably finishing school first I think.

Re: Lesley Kerkhove
The Dutch girls all finish school before they start pl;aying full time on the circuit. it puts them way behind alot of the other girls who finish school at 16 or so. But I guess that's the culture in NL - get an education first, and then try sport. At least if they fail they have something to go back on.

And once they play at the seniors they fail to ever get their planning right Gerards & Harmsen played two 25k's in the US and leave before the relatively easy 50k's start, Meddens playing a 10k while she could have gotten in the MD of most challengers this week...

This is true, although Aran seems to be doing Ok at her scheduling, and I think Chayenne had a good schedule last year - played some easier events and got her ranking up anyway. But most do seem to struggle with their schedules.

Re: Lesley Kerkhove
Beloofd ????
