With a little less than 200 points separating #2 Svetlana Kuznetsova and #3 Ana Ivanovic, it seems QUITE likely that the young Serb will take over the #2 ranking soon.

Hopefully Ana loses in the QF (and I don't say that to be malicious, I'm a Venus fan), but it's certainly possible if only 200 points separate Kuz and Ana.

But I would expect Sharapova to be #2 fairly soon. She's #7 with her 4R points, then she'll have 300 points taken off next week after Tokyo isn't properly defended, that'd put her to around #10, but I completely expect Sharapova to semifinal here so she'll be fine.

It's between Ana and Maria for #2 in my eyes. Serena too, but that's really not feasible until right before the US Open. Venus has a small shot at it as well. Kuznetsova can be #2 again if she drops out.

So, short answer, yes, but not for very long.

I think Maria/Serena/Venus are all gunning for that spot too and neither of them have a WHOLE lot to defend so.... we'll see. It'll be an interesting fight for sure.

I think she'll get it sometime in the IW/Miami time period if she play's well... It will be tough to hold onto it after the FO & Wimbledon though.

IF Venus wins the Ao she'll be number 4 next week, with pretty much nothing to defend...so she'd prolly have the #2 ranking going into the FO..... If Ana gets it, she wont hold it long IMO... Serena/ Pova/ Venus will take it away before Wimbledon...

Venus will never do it, she's 27, battling againts anemia. How do you think she can play enough tournaments to make her n.2 throughout the year? Slams are not enough.

Sveta has not much defend yet and Ana will lose 370 points from Tokyo and Antwerp.
So if Ana won't beat Venus then I don't think she will be 2nd soon.
Or she gets some great scores in Indian Wells and Miami.
But after that she will lose 185 points again from Amelia Island and Charleston which she won't defend.

I think she might make it before the french open, but then she has a lot of points to defend for the FO right? (She made the finals right?? if I remember correctly).
If Venus wins AO, then she's poised to probably take over the #2 spot for most of 2008 (if she plays more than just grandslams)
