Who's the next fastest tall player?
Venus is unique in that she's the only good player on tour who's over six feet, AND fleet of foot. The tall players mostly fall into the Davenport mode. Powerful but no very fast. Speed is more the province of the mid-size (Serena, Jankovic, Peer) and small (Henin) players.
But, putting Venus aside, who's the next fastest of the tall players? Vaidisova? Ivanovic? Hantuchova? Sharapova?
NOTE: Despite being relatively slow, Davenport covered the court well. (AN-ti-ci-PAY-shun....)

Hm, yeah, Venus is definitely fastest one.
I see Hantuchova after her normally & Sharapova from taller ones. Also Dementieva, but forgot how tall she is.

Dementieva is six feet tall (her stats on the official site are slightly incorrect). She's the next fastest, for sure, who is 6 feet and over. But she's more footwork than anything else, she has AMAZING footwork. As well she's like Venus in that she's great at lunging for balls side to side; both have the best running passing shots in the business. Venus has her beat in running forwards though, although Elena's no slouch at catching drop shots.

Everybody says Lena's 6 ft., but I'm not sure. Even then, Volcana said over 6 ft.
Actually, I think if you set up a 100 meter dash Vee would probably pip Lena at the finish even if some of the smaller players were running. They are both really fast. In a sport like tennis, acceleration and quickness are probably more important than top speed because you're rarely going to max out in a matter of feet.
That Vee and Lena are able to get their turbos spooled up so quickly in spite of their height is a testament to what great athletes they are, and why they are two of my faves.

Lena D no doubt. If she & Venus were in the olympics track & field face off, all the short bitches like Justine and Hingis would lose out. Venus would edge Lena at the 100 m & 110 m hurdles (Venus can really jump dayum). Lena would go on to eclipse Venus in the 200 m & 400 m due to Venus' anemia  |
