Marta Paigina could be the 2nd 1999 girl to win a pro title this year (joining Sofya Zhuk who won 10K Shymkent 2 months ago), as she's through to the final of 10K Tel Aviv as a qualifier this week!
To get the title, she'll have to beat former 1998-GOAT (7)Olga Fridman (who's been disappointing this year
). Get it Marta!
Marta was born on March 3, 1999. She's currently #515 in juniors (CHR of 360).
She didn't play much juniors and had mixed success there, hence the ranking. She made the SFs at G3 Almetievsk Open
(lost 3-6 6-7(6) to the eventual champion (Q)Elena Rybakina) and won G4 Samara Cup
(she was seed 5 and beat Anna Tarasova 3 & 1 in the final).
She had another occasion to win a 10K before actually (and before Zhuk!
), in August when she reached the final of 10K Kazan as a qualifier. She lost 2 & 2 to (2)Natela Dzalamidze in the final.
Actually, when you're looking at her 2014, she's been fairly unimpressive till her Kazan final at the very end of August ("only" the G3 SF in Feb, and a QF in 10K Shymkent as a qualifier in April).
And then it's been basically: F in 10K Kazan
-> winner of G4 Samara
(-> 3 month break) -> SFs in 10K Tel Aviv
last week (as a qualifier, lost to the eventual champion (2)Barbora Stefkova 6-4 5-7 1-6 -> Final/Winner(?) in Tel Aviv
Here are her wins of the last 2 weeks
- last week
, she beat (6)Liubov Vasilyeva (WTA 661) 3-6 7-6(2) 6-2 in R1, Ilka Csoregi (CHR 717) 4 & 3 in R2, and Daria Lodikova 6-1 7-5 in QF
, before losing to (2)Barbora Stefkova (WTA 387), 6-4 5-7 1-6 in SF.
- this week
, she beat (Q)Valeria Nikolaev 0 & 2 in R1, (Q)Ofri Lankri 5-0 ret. in R2
, Keren Shlomo (CHR 359) 2 & 3 in QF and (3)Deniz Khazaniuk (WTA 402, CHR 300) 3 & 3 in SF!
Today, along with her great win over Khazaniuk in singles SFs, she also won the dubs final with Julia Helbet.
They beat Patiuk/Shlomo 4 & 2 in the final!
Make the double, Marta!
