You forgot the second set: 6-1.
I told you to look out for this player. It's sufficient to look at Gronert's results this year to see she is very underrated and is currently playing at a top 300 level, which Julia is yet to achieve. I don't see her win as a surprise, although such a one-sided scoreline is.
Keren did nothing of note here: got a dream draw like she always gets - two unranked qualifiers and a third player who should have played qualies (ranked about #1000), still had to save a MP against one of them, then got whopped in the Semis against a top-500 player (the #2 seed).

Chen ASTROGO (ISR) (3) Vs Manana SHAPAKIDZE (GEO) (6)

Weak lineup.
Astrugo has barely played this year, even after her tironut, but if she's still to be considered a hope for the future, she has to win this tournament.

Re: Israeli hopes for the future?

Two nice (and hard) wins for her in the MD (following two more in qualies), but it's way too early to attach the "hopeful" tag, something I'll be willing to do if she wins her next match against a much better player who has just won a title, but I can't see it happening.
Anyway it's nice to see some activity abroad of someone other than Glushko and Shlomo (who once again proved that she's over-ranked by some way).

I agree with your sentiment about the "hopeful" tag. However with Shahar's current meltdown and no other player doing anything exciting, I am eager to jump the gun with the label.

Top 100? I can't even tell who is the next girl to enter this list of top 600 (or rather 500, where we seem to be having only two players for quite a while - Shahar and Julia).
Most of them aren't good enough, and the very few that might be (Astrugo, Aliev) aren't playing.

Keren Shlomo tried to step it up today by entering Istanbul Cup as a qualifier. She lost to Vorocova 6-3 6-4.

Julia is really stepping up by entering in the Bank of the West Classic in California as a qualifier? She plays Angela Haynes in the first round.

But these two are the only ones but Shahar to play something close to a pro schedule.
This is one of the best scores of Keren's career (seriously).

Re: Israeli hopes for the future?

She is 16 years old, and plays in Ramat Hasharon Tennis center.
2 weeks ago she won the under 18 championship in singeks and doubles.

Maybe at last some light at the end of the tunnel?

Re: Israeli hopes for the future?

In an interview with the press after her loss at Indian Wells, Shahar Peer said the following:

After her loss, Peer told reporters at a press conference that the situation of Israeli tennis is in poor shape. "I don't see any up-and-coming player replacing me," she said. "There's talk of maybe one player who is good." (Rami Hipsh)

Is this true? Is anyone coming up with any hope for a future top 100.

Re: Israeli hopes for the future?

I think she meant Glushko, and that too was being polite.
Shahar took these 10Ks when she was 15. The best two players after her have one each for their careers. The others (outside Astrugo which can take one too) can hardly win a match against any ranked player that comes to play here. There's close to nothing.
And outside Shahar's resurgence, even the results of the next three this season have been poor.
