Who should win their first Grand Slam title in the next couple of years, and where?
I just felt it would be neat to see who in the upper echelon would win their first major, based on their style of game. I've got a few preset options with 5 people (Nicole Vaidisova, Ana Ivanovic, Anna Chakvetadze, Marion Bartoli, and Lucie Safarova) and halves of the year (AO, RG half; and the Wim, USO half).

Hmm I think Vaidisova is closest out of all of those, and it could be Wimbledon or the AO.

The only one I see from this pool as a future grand slam winner is Ivanovic... But you should've put Jankovic who is the one to look for!

I can make a contest for Vaidisova and Chakvetadze. Anna has enough variety to scare most of the big hitters, and she's not afraid to run. As soon as she manages to handle Sharapova, she could definitely win a G.S. Vaidisova is such a big hitter and a fiesty competitor. Her problem is that she's prone to anger. As soon as she controls the anger, she will win her G.S. She's been so close at R.G. and Australia.

Re: Who should win their first Grand Slam title in the next couple of years, and wher
Ivanovic: Roland Garros
Safarova: Australian (could be anywhere really)
Vaidisova: US Open
Jankovic: Australian
Chakvetadze: not sure but I think nowhere
Bartoli: nowhere, but if anywhere it'd be Wimbledon

Hey. One thing. I never put Jankovic on there, because quite honestly...she's going to win one. Someone is going to slip up and then she's going to capture one!

Please, I want to hear everyone's opinion. That's the reason why I wrote this thread...to get the opinion of others.

I don't know but I hope it's soon because the young girls winning majors would definitely make things more interesting.

Re: Who should win their first Grand Slam title in the next couple of years, and wher
It doesn't matter where. If you are a major player, you can win any Slam. Saying that, Nikki and Lucie are definite slam contenders and probable winners in the next few years or more. They just lack experience, maturity and proficiency with their weapons. Although she is a top-ten player, Chaks is not likely to win one, for the competition is just too steep for her today and in the future. She lacks a dictating serve and has practically no net game. With the Sisters and Justine in their primes with six to seven years of effective play remaining and Maria and Jelena evolving nicely into their primes, Anna has no chance. I'm not sold on Ana. I think she is okay. Don't know enough of Bartoli to have an opinion, meaning I haven't seen her perform to project her probabilities.

Re: Who should win their first Grand Slam title in the next couple of years, and wher
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plexicushion
Quote:
Plexicushion is a tennis surface made by Plexipave, and according to a Technical manual found on Tennis Australia's website, it is one of a number of so called "Wet lay systems" which include Rebound Ace Pro, Laykold and DecoTurf.
On May 30, 2007, the Australian Open announced that it will change the surface on which the event is played from Rebound Ace to plexicushion. The change will take place by the time the next Australian Open is played in January 2008.
Controversy has already sprung up concerning the decision to change surfaces. Much of the controversy stems from the fact that the plexicushion surface is very similar to DecoTurf, the surface currently used at another Grand Slam, the U.S. Open. Rebound Ace Spokesman Paul Bull has stated that "we had an Australian icon event with a unique Australian product and now we are just going to become a clone of the US Open." [1]

The AO and USO are going to be nearly identical come next year. The distinction between these two majors in terms of gauging player's chances is moot now. Any one who you think will win the AO next year will have just as must of a chance at the USO, and vice versa.
