Well, in the latest rankings (April 14), Jelena has moved up to a career-high ranking of 198 (from 205 last week). She's now in the top 200, for the first time ever!

Also, even though she hasn't yet had any spectacular tournament results in 2008, she has made a solid move up the rankings since the end of 2007, when she was 255.

Congratulations, Jelena! Your big breakthrough will come any day now!

She won't have to defend practically any points until June 3rd, so she has a month and a half to improve her ranking as much as she can.
Hopefully she can reach top 150 by then

That's great news. I think a nice goal for Jelena would be Top 100 by USO and into the MD directly. It might be something of a stretch, but a few big results and it's possible. Hopefully a big result in Prague for her would be nice!
Is she playing Fed Cup this week or an ITF event? Also, what is she playing the weeks of May 5-19?

she wasn't invited to fed cup

and there aren't any strong itf in europe this week
i think she will be playing zagreb starting on may5th

Did anyone post this yet? Thanks to her new ranking, Jelena was the 2nd-to-last Direct Entry into Roland Garros qualies.

It's unbelievable how far she's come in less than one year.

And she's done it all on her own -- I only remember her receiving one wild card in all that time, for qualies for the Bronx 50K. Truly amazing.

I always hope her story of cliimbing the ranks on her own will inspire Mirjana Lucic! So I'm glad they'll both be in Prague and I hope they'll chat.

No, she just withdrew

She will be playing 50k in Bucharest that week.

But I'm not sure what's up for the next week.
She withdrew from 100k in France too. Too bad!

The 100K in France is the same week as Prague, where she's in the qualies. It's better for her to play the WTA event instead of another challenger.

In Bucharest she'll be in the main draw and might even be seeded, so I can see why she'd choose to play there instead of Zagreb.
