I though Jelena had a good chance for revenge, but I wasn't expecting that scoreline!!! Awesome match, no do some damage in the MD by drawing either Brengle or Cohen Aloro please!!!

What a great run through qualies. it's like Jelena suddenly woke up this week!

Not an easy draw, though: she drew 4th-seed Olaru. Good thing her qualy matches have been straightforward, because she's going to need everything she's got to have a chance against Olaru. They play at 10 AM, Pacific time.

Very impressive result against Ye-Ra Lee! I have to say, though, that I was half expecting it. That's because Jelena has been excellent when given an opportunity for revenge. So far during her comeback, she has played against four players after losing to them earlier:

+ In May '07 she lost to Munch-Soegaard 5-7 4-6. The next time they played, Jelena beat her 6-2 6-0.
+ In June '07 she lost to Muhammed 3-6 6-4 4-6. The next time they played, Jelena beat her 6-3 6-0.
+ In Feb. '08 she lost to Lee 5-7 3-6. Yesterday, Jelena beat her 6-3 6-0.

It's also interesting that each time the second set was a bagel!

The only player Jelena hasn't been able to crack yet is Harkleroad, to whom she has now lost three matches in a row...

Wow, great win for Jelena! Olaru, at #75, is the highest-ranked player she has ever beaten! This should be really good for her confidence, especially after her disastrous start to 2008. Her match tomorrow against Schruff will be tough as Schruff has been playing reasonably well this year; still, it's definitely winnable, as long as Jele plays the way she has been this week.

Regardless of what happens, though, Jele will have a new career-high ranking, probably around 218-220. More importantly, it looks like her excellent form of 2007 is back! She has no points to defend until late May so she should definitely be getting into the top 200 soon. Jele has *never* played in a WTA tournament but now that day is not far off!

PS: With her win today, Jele passed Sprem in ranking points and will become the fourth-ranked Croat next week.

jelena's points later in the year won't be tough to defend if she is consistently playing the tougher challenger/wta events (which she'll be able to do with her ranking very soon
