Re: The Amazing and Remarkable Monica Niculescu
They managed to win it despite choking a 50 lead in 2nd.
Monica for both titles!!!

Re: The Amazing and Remarkable Monica Niculescu
Great week for Monica. She played well in both singles and doubles. As for the loss to Bammer I have two thoughts. Over the last few months Monica has been winning a lot of matches. But she has been winning them by simply outclassing her clearly inferior opponents. The next challenge in her career now is to beat players who aren't clearly inferior to her but are indeed her equal. Monica has yet to display that she can squeeze out a tight three set win against a top opponent. Against both Bammer and Ivanovic, Monica showed she is good enough to play on the same level as these girls. She needs to play more tight matches against quality opposition and slowly but surely she win learn how to win some of these tight matches. But being able to do that only comes from experience.
The other thing I would like to note is that Bammer followed her three set win against Monica by beating Kuznetsova in two sets. I think this certainly indicates that Monica was right in there against a top player who herself was in form. If Monica maintains this level of play there is no doubt in my mind she is going to keep rising up the ranking at a very swift pace.

I'll have to start following Monica too I think! I always love players with more finesse and she sounds very interesting. GL to her!

Monica took the 1st set 75, being down 35 and leads 10 with break in 2nd.
She plays Lapushenkova btw.

This win against Kleybanova is exactly the kind of win I wanted to see Monica produce, a really hard fought come from behind dogfight against another young up and coming future star. Just magnificent result. This match more than any other before it reinforces my feelings that Monica has a really great future.
Excellent fighting Monica.
