Re: 2008 USTA/ITA National Women's Team Indoor Championship

Arkansas is a slightly odd choice for Indoors, they're ranked No. 53 in the first team rankings. While I understand that they currently have the No. 1 player in the nation, I don't know if they'll be able to compete against the other teams (besides Wisconsin).

Re: 2008 USTA/ITA National Women's Team Indoor Championship

The draws are up. Despite Notre Dame's poor form, the have a winnable match against Georgia. The Pac-10 schools are at a slight disadvantage given that they don't play indoors and they haven't played many matches due to the rains of the past two weeks.

Re: 2008 USTA/ITA National Women's Team Indoor Championship

So much for my prediction that UCLA would win the tournament. On a note of interest, Yasmin Schnack did not play singles which I think would have made the difference (she did play doubles). Schnack would have played either No. 3/4

In the original draw, UCLA was to play Fresno State and Northwestern was to play UNC. Does anyone know why it was flip flopped?

Re: 2008 USTA/ITA National Women's Team Indoor Championship

The flip-flop in matches in both the main draw and consolation is occurring to avoid playing matches with teams that will meet outside of the Indoors.

For example, Fresno State and UCLA are scheduled to play later in the year as were UNC and Northwestern. Hence the flip. This happens in the consolation draw as well.

Georgia Tech defends.

I was surprised at the fight Miami, Georgia, and Arkansas gave especially since they have much weaker No. 5 and No. 6 players.

Re: 2008 USTA/ITA National Women's Team Indoor Championship

I don't know if it's necessarily cheating but I found it odd how some teams would flip-flop positions on their teams. For example, UNC switched up Tsang and Marand twice. Tsang played No. 1 and lost against UCLA and Marand won at No. 2. In their next match against USC it made sense that they switched spots, but when they played against Northwestern they switched back to Tsang at No. 1. It seems a bit obvious that UNC was matching against their opponents as opposed to sticking to order of strength.

Northwestern also did a couple of flip-flops against Georgia Tech with their No. 1 and No. 2 and their No. 4 and No. 5.

Below is the first edition of the Indoor All Tournament Team

Quote:
2008 ITA National Women's Team Indoor Championships All-Tournament Team
Singles
No. 1 - Kristi Miller, Georgia Tech
No. 2 - Georgia Rose, Northwestern
No. 3 - Michaela Kissell, Miami
No. 4 - Celia Durkin, Stanford
No. 5 - Kirsten Flower, Georgia Tech
No. 6 - Suzie Matzenauer, Northwestern
Doubles
No. 1 - Kirsten Flower and Kristi Miller, Georgia Tech
No. 2 - Whitney Deason and Jessica Nguyen, Stanford
No. 3 - Noelle Hickey and Christy Striplin, Georgia Tech
