Re: AKGUL! The Gentle Giant's Wildly Enthusiastic Fan Zone
Akgul has landed in a really interesting quarter of the draw in this week's 100K+H in Cagnes-sur-Mer:
(8)Akgul Amanmuradova (UZB) v Maria-Elena Camerin (ITA)
Kaia Kanepi (EST) v Mariya Koryttseva (UKR)
Monica Niculescu (ROU) v Q/LL
(2)Anastasija Sevastova (LAT) v Marta Domachowska (POL)
Good luck, kid!

Haha, I knew you meant last week. I just wanted to move on from last week to the good news from this week.
Another solid win today for Big Akgul; she beat Little Ayumi 63 62.
Come back and post again, Akgul fans!

Re: AKGUL! The Gentle Giant's Wildly Enthusiastic Fan Zone
Very good wins for Akgul . Who had thought that she'll win against Scheepers, Morita and Vinci so easily ?

She didn't get blown off the court, though!
Next up for Akgul: Warsaw qualies (I think!)

Re: AKGUL! The Gentle Giant's Wildly Enthusiastic Fan Zone
Hi everyone!!!
Haven't written in here for a while - it's good to see everyone back in here again!!
Akgul has had some great wins recently - so proud of her for getting through qualies in both Rome and Madrid!!
I was lucky enough to have been in Madrid last week - was there for qualies until the first tuesday so I got to see all of her matches.
She was so impressive against Vinci, knew this was gonna be a tough match cause the Italians have been so good on clay recently. Akgul played that match with so much confidence, she really mixed up her game....great serving, beautiful slice backhands, superb volleys at the net - she really thought about her shots and it was great to see all the hard work has paid off!! In her QR2 match she totally dominated against Morita, once again positive, solid and well thought out game plan. The doubles also started so well, easy first set but Safina/Szavay just started to play better in the second and it was so close...sad that they lost These first three matches were all played on the show Courts 2 & 3 - not many people in these of these stadium, partly because most people don't know where they are (Madrid is not the most fan friendly tournament - been to this tourney for both years and I didn't think it could get worse...but it was )
Ok, onto the R1 match against Kleybanova - I still think Akgul could have won this match, she certainly has the game and talent. This match was played on an outside court totally different conditions to the other three matches, also it was very noisy with lots of people shouting and walking/running past the court to get to see Nadal etc.. on the practise courts, so it was very distracting. Basically, Kleybanova managed to return everything that was thrown at her, considering she is a bigger girl she can run! Akgul tried a few times to drop shot her but still Kleybanova managed to get to them everytime and get her with incredible passing shots. It was a really hard hitting match, mostly Kleybanova stayed on the baseline and Akgul trying to mix it up, she really tried everything.
Anyway, they are great matches and Akgul has worked so hard, she deserves all the great results she's been getting!!!
btw - Got loads of photos from the matches and videos too!! Will upload them to the website and I'll also post some in here too, now that everyone is back again!!
