Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

She's 16 (born June 1997).

Emilie lost R2 singles to a clearly better French girl. She also lost R1 doubles to a very good Chinese team.

Here's a lovely video interview with Emilie after her R1 win (in Danish):
http://www.on-sport.dk/sondergaard-o...forsvarer-de-1

Emilie says she was very nervous as this is her first grand slam appearence. She thinks her play and technique is rather good at the moment and only needs small adjustments. But she also thinks she needs to improve her physique to be really competitive at this level.

Emilie She's been improving a lot lately and I can't wait to see what the rest of the year has in store!!

Wonder what her next tournament is...? I guess Fed Cup.

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

This is the planned ITF schedule for Emilie according to the Danish Tennis Federation:

Code:
Date Tournament Country Grade

03 Mar - 09 Mar LTAT ITF Junior THA 1
11 Mar - 16 Mar 23rd Sarawak Chief Minister's Cup MAS 1
14 Apr - 20 Apr Open Istres Ouest Provence FRA 2
21 Apr - 27 Apr 19ème Open Int. de Beaulieu-sur-Mer FRA 1
19 May - 25 May 55 Trofeo Bonfiglio ITA A
01 Jun - 07 Jun Roland Garros Junior French Championships FRA A
22 Jun - 27 Jun Nike Junior International Roehampton GBR 1
28 Jun - 06 Jul The Junior Championships, Wimbledon GBR A
But this doesn't mean that she's going to play all of these tournaments. Some will most likely be skipped (and others might be squeezed in). But it doesn't seem like she'll participate at any of the three Danish grade 4 ITF's during the 1st half of 2014.

Then there is the Fed Cup (February), possibly Danish indoors Championships (in March, coinciding with the South East Asia ITF's), possibly Danish U18 indoors (April, if she skips the French ITF's), and of course the European U18 Championships (July).

The outdoors season starts pretty late in Denmark (May), but I expect her to play a few tournaments in Denmark during the summer. It'll be nice to see Emilie competing with Grage, Barbat, Jespersen and others (she's never beaten Grage or Barbat, of course, so her performance against these is a good measurement of her development)!

Will 2014 be the year when she plays her 1st pro tournament?

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Julie Noe has moved up 41 positions on the ITF rankings after her fine performance in Venezuela. Well done! She's now #241 and not to far off junior grand slam qualies at RG & Wimbledon. But I'm not sure about her plans for the remaining part of 2014. This is her last year as a junior, and she'll have to make the transition to the pro circuit soon (started playing 10K qualies in 2013).

I guess Julie Noe & Emilie Francati will play doubles at U18 European Championships in July.

Nice to see that we finally have another girl who can win matches in a Junior GS. But still a long way to go for Emilie...

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Denmark's U12 girls are in the Czech Republic playing Tennis Europe U12 Winter Cup qualies.

Denmark has a R1 bye and plays the winner of Poland/Czech Republic in SF.

The Danish team: Mille Elsborg, Agnes Ditlev, Nina Vicic. Agnes is Martine Ditlev's younger sister. Here is a video of Mille Elsborg playing with Wozniacki at a sponsor event in the summer of 2013 (from 7:25 to 13:00 into the clip):

These Danish U12 girls haven't played much international tennis and we shouldn't expect too much based on what the Danish U12 girls have achieved the last couple of years. But it will be a great experience for these young talents. GL!
