Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

The KB ITF (G4) begins tomorrow (Saturday). A lot of Danish juniors are playing here, of course.

14 Danish girls in the qualies and at least 8 girls in the main draw (Melsted, Ditlev, Noe, Rasmussen, Høyer, Francati, Alipieva, Fenger). Add to that a few wild cards (I assume Malene Stripp and Emma Rønholt got MD wildcards plus probably one or two more). GL!

I've been away some time. The TE winter cups wasn't particularly successful for the Danish girls but Julie Noe was quite impressive and won all three of her singles matches (against Serbia, Croatia, and Luxembourg). Alipieva won two of three matches. Ditlev didn't play any singles matches, and only played one of three doubles matches, so I wonder if she's perhaps not 100% healthy?

Cecilie Melsted has had a good week back in Denmark while the younger juniors were at the TE Winter Cups: Cecile was runner up at the first of the Danish GP tournaments (losing to Mai Grage in the final). Cecilie is seeded 1 at the KB tournament.

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

I just looked at the entry list. Quite a weak tournament in KB compared to recent years so a very good chance for the DK girls to get some points. Cecilie Melsted is the big favourite to win this tournament but she has been very unstable during the last year in the ITF tournaments so maybe a chance for the other DK girls to get an ITF title. Good luck to everyone

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

It's certainly a great opportunity for the girls to earn some points.

I just saw at KB's tournament site that Malene Stripp has been moved into MD. MD Wildcards have been given to Emma Rønholt, Frederikke Svarre, and Emilie Elsvad (and to Hanna Borjeson of Sweden). This means at least 12 Danish girls in the MD.

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Good start by the Danish girls. It will be hard to avoid all-Danish matches coming up and I can see that some will clash into each other already in the 2nd round. A possible Melsted-Alipieva QF would also be interesting

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

The Danish girls are really making the best out of the opportunities. Good luck in the semi. It would be nice with an all Danish final in a G4. We have not seen that since Caroline won against Hanne Skak in 2003 in Kolding (just did a bit of searching)

Wow! Nice find.

I haven't checked but I guess some other records may have been set here: 8 Danish girls among the last 16; 4 Danish girls in the quarters; 3 in the semis?

Let's hope one of the Danes wins it. That would be "prikken over i'et", as we say in Denmark (the icing on the cake, cherry on the pie etc.). GL!

EDIT: Actually it was 9 Danish girls among the last 16!

ITF Copenhagen Winter Cup 2012

Final

Caroline Kallberg (SWE) def. (3) Julie Noe (DEN) 7-6(4) 6-4

Too bad. At least it was a close match, and Julie has played a great tournament. 2012 has been really good for Julie: She ended 2011 ranked 595, but is approaching top 300 already. She also won all her singles matches at the TE Winter classics two weeks ago. Well done.

Next international tournament for the Danish players is Oslo ITF (G4) beginning monday (MD).

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Almost all the Danish girls did very well at the KB tournament, and they will gain some valuable ITF ranking points when the next ranking is published:

Code:
             Points gained at KB ITF

Noe 20
Alipieva 17.5
Rasmussen 17.5
Stripp 12.5
Francati 10
Høyer 10
Rønholt 10
Ditlev 7.5
Melsted 2.5
Støchkel 2.5
Notice that this is points gained, not points earned. Melsted already has some good results on her 'best' list (plus she had a doubles final at KB 2011 to defend), so she didn't gain much although she earned 20 points for the singles SF.

The gained ranking points obviously means that most of the girls will climb a bit in the rankings and thereby improve their chances of getting entries to tournaments (or maybe MD entry instead of Q).

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Some news from last week:

A lot of the Danishe girls reached new career high rankings because of their success at the Copenhagen ITF. The girls in question are Noe at #314, Ditlev #360, Rasmussen #459, Høyer # 584, Francati #677, Alipieva #773, Stripp #960, Rønholt #1410, Støchkel #1810.

The Oslo ITF last week, on the other hand, wasn't particularly successful for the Danes. Melsted reached the SF, Noe the 2nd round. All the other girls (Francati, Alipieva and Høyer) lost in the 1st round. Rønholt lost the qualifying final in three sets against the very talented Bosnian Jokic (ranked #8 at the TE U14 rankings). Jokic eventually made it to the quarters in the main draw, so it's nice to see that Rønholt is almost at the same level.

Anna Signe Rasmusen is at her last year as a junior, so she tried something else last week: She entered the qualies of the Helsingborg 10K pro tournament. She made it through qualification (beating Stripp on the way), and also won a main draw match! WD.

Martine Ditlev was in Germany for an ITF G4 but lost in R2.
