Excellent result. Well done. Good to see another Danish junior girl making international progress. Martine will soon catch up with Cecilie Melsted. Good for Danish girl tennis

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Estonian Junior Open, G4

SF: Akvile PARAZINSKAITE (LTU) def. Martine DITLEV (DEN) 2-6 6-3 6-2

But it has been two good weeks for Martine, and she has defeated a lot of higher ranked players!

Martine also got a spot in the qualifying draw at the Copenhagen WTA. She's up against Ahsha Rolle (USA), WTA #256. An impossible task for Martine, but hopefully a good learning lesson.

Danish juniors in the Q draw at WTA Copenhagen:

Julie Noe (DAN) vs Marina Shamayko (RUS)
Ulrikke Høyer (DAN) vs Emma Laine (FIN)
Ellen Allgurin (SWE) vs Anna Signe Rasmussen (DAN)
Maria Jespersen (DAN) vs Dalila Jakupović (SLO)
Justyna Jegiołka (POL) vs Cecilie Melsted (DAN)
Mai Grage (DAN) vs Johanna Konta (AUS)
Frederikke Svarre (DAN) vs Yi-Fan Xu (CHN)
Martine Ditlev (DAN) vs [8]Ahsha Rolle (USA)

(Yeah, I know Mai Grage and Maria Jespersen are not juniors).

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

They'll all lose for sure, but I had actually expected a lot more bagels:

Marina Shamayko (RUS) def. Julie Noe (DAN) 6-3 6-2
Emma Laine (FIN) def. Ulrikke Høyer (DAN) 6-0 6-3
Dalila Jakupović (SLO) def. Maria Jespersen (DAN) 6-3 6-1
Justyna Jegiołka (POL) def. Cecilie Melsted (DAN) 6-3 6-0
Johanna Konta (AUS) def. Mai Grage (DAN) 6-1 6-3
Yi-Fan Xu (CHN) def. Frederikke Svarre (DAN) 6-0 6-0

Anna Signe and Martine are playing their matches at the moment.

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Nordic Team Championships are being played the next days (Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday) here in Denmark with U13 and U15 teams.

Danish U13 Team:

From left: Coach Karina Jacobsgaard, Helena Steenberg, Ida Krause, Simone Alipieva

Danish U15 Team:

From left: Coach, Martine Ditlev, Julie Noe, Emilie Francati

These teams are probably the strongest Denmark has had for many years. Julie and Martine played WTA yesterday! Martine is in superb form, and Emilie Francati has had an outstanding season. Good luck!

Martine Ditlev:

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

The Danish girls won all their matches on Day 1 (both singles and doubles). Finland was the opponent. Playing Sweden today.

Here is some brief footage from Day 1 (Danish audio):

Denmark's talent coach, the Swede Niklas Rosengren, is also interviewed. The 1st Danish girl in the clip (in red) is U13 girl Helena Steenberg (against Finland's Nicola Ussher), the 2nd is Martine Ditlev. The double playing towards the end are U13 girls Simone Alipieva and Ida Krause.

Yes, very well done. The U15 girls were really good:
Martine Ditlev won all her three singles matches; Julie Noe won one of two matches, and Emilie Francati got an impressive win in her only singles match against the talented Norwegian Melanie Stokke. The Danish U15 girls also won all three doubles matches. Impressive stuff!

The U13 girls were no. 2 after Sweden.

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

A lot of Danish juniors are playing at the Odense ITF this week (Cecilie Melsted, Martine Ditlev, Anna Signe Rasmussen, Emilie Francati, Emma Rønholt, Ulrikke Høyer and many others, including Frederikke Svarre, who got an unexpected wild card for the Copenhagen WTA two weeks ago without even having played an ITF main draw match ever before!).

It'll be interesting to see if the Odense girl Martine Ditlev has kept her good form from her latest ITF's (a final and a SF) and be able to produce another good result on home soil.

Emilie Francati, Emma Rønholt, Anna Signe Rasmussen, and Emma Henriksen all won their 1st round matches today. 2nd round is scheduled for tomorrow, and Cecilie Melsted and Martine Ditlev will also also enter directly into 2nd round (they had 1st round bye). GL!

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Three Danish girls won and are in the 3rd round!

Odense ITF (G4):

Martine DITLEV (DEN) (5) defeated Martina MALMQVIST (SWE) 7-5 7-5
Anna Signe RASMUSSEN (DEN) (10) defeated Karolina SNITA (POL) 3-2 Retired
Emilie FRANCATI (DEN) defeated Nina KHRISANOVA (RUS) (15) 6-2 7-6(5)

Emma Rønholt, Cecilie Melsted, Emma Henriksen, and Malene Stripp all lost today

Emilie Francati has been phenomenal in 2011. Today she beat a player born 1994. Emilie's born 1997, and is not yet 14 (her birthday is in three days)! Well done!

Keep going girls... GL in the next round.

Emilie is quite tall? That must help a bit?

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Yes, Emilie is quite tall, which certainly helps. But she's really talented too, and she has some remarkable results this year. This is her first ITF tournament, btw., and winning two matches at an ITF (which is U18) is quite remarkable for a 13 year old - at least by Danish standards! I don't expect her to reach the quarters though, but I'm already impressed by her results.
