Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

EuroElite/DISPUK Indoor Talent Cup, Farum 2011

U14, 1R singles (Danish winners only):

Emilie Francati d. (Q) Jana Kuzovkova (EST) 6-1 6-2
(WC) Ida Emilie Krause d. Pernilla Axeheim (SWE) 6-2 6-0

Only two of six Danish girls won their 1st round matches (U14 results). Ida Emilie Krause is born 1999, and still only 11 yo, so she was a nice surprise. Simone Alipieva was seeded 3 here and can't be too satisfied. But I'm sure she'll get her results in the future! None of the seven U16 players won their 1st round matches, which maybe wasn't ecpected either (U16 results).

The most important thing for these juniors is really to stay motivated for a lot of years. This seems to be a particular problem for Danish tennis at the moment (Mai Grage apparently quitting her pro career as announced today, and the best Danish male junior Mads Engsted also stopped his international career six months ago at an age of 17)!

EuroElite/DISPUK Indoor Talent Cup, Farum 2011

U14, 2R singles (Danish results)
Emilie Francati d. Ida Seljevoll Skancke (NOR) 6-4 6-2
(5)Joana BRITES (GBR) d. (WC) Ida Emilie Krause 6-1 6-1

The Danish U14 girls are doing well in the doubles tournament, as two teams are in the semi finals: Vibe Baumann/Simone Alipieva and Emilie Francati/Emma Rønholt. They're in opposite sections of the draw.

EuroElite/DISPUK Indoor Talent Cup, Farum 2011

U14, singles

F: Emilie Francati (DEN) d. (2) Ekaterina ALAY (RUS) 6-3 6-3

A singles and a doubles title! What a fantastic tournament for Emilie! She's had a great start of the year: Sjælland (Sealand) U14 champion in January among other things. Congratulations.

Good to see other Danish girls making international results. Beating a Russian in a final is always impressive. Well done

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Really nice result from Emilie!

Btw. thx for keeping this thread going, not many positive things to say about Danish tennis at the moment (besides Caro ). The federation is a mess and I really fear that it will affect the development of new talents. The Fed Cup team imploding won't exactly help.

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Great that you're around too! The Danish tennis Federation is a mess for sure, and we're not really getting any "Björn Borg effect" even if Caroline is the world no. 1. But there is a lot of talent among the young Danish girls, and hopefully the future will be bright. And I hope that I (or someone else) will keep this thread updated for the next couple of years, and that it will be a positive experience!

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

You are right

It's just that we've seen so many talents over the last 5 years or so and none of them has managed to do anything at the highest international level (junior or seniors) Some of them has reached a decent junior ranking but it has always been in their last junior-season where they have been competing against 14-15-year-olds. I don't know nearly enough about the talent-development in Denmark but if the talents aren't hyped too much, the coaching and training just can't be good enough.

A comparison to Badminton isn't quite fair I know, but the fact remains that the Badminton Federation has managed to get really good results with the talents lately.

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Kungens Kanna & Drottningens Pris, Stockholm, Sweden (U14)

1R: (6) Simone Alipieva def. Elisabeth Lyukshinova (RUS) 6-1 6-1

Simone's results have not been extraordinary since last summer. Maybe all the media attention has disturbed her focus (appearing on national tv, and getting multi-page articles in the biggest Danish newspapers). Simone's is still so young, so it's not really fair to put too much pressure on her at this stage. And this is her first year as a U14 player, so we shouldn't expect too much, perhaps. Anyway, I still hope she'll win some more tournaments GL in Sweden!

There was a livecam on the court, and I watched a bit of the match online at the tournament website. Simone was very fast to approach the net, and played a gutsy and rather aggressive game (her trademark). The quality of the live stream wasn't very good though, so I only followed a few games. Well done!

Simone is also in the doubles semi final later this afternoon, so this has been a really good week for her! Here's a screendump of the QF today (Simone nearest camera, i.e. to the right):
