Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Match 1 on Centre court is finished now (Yakimova def. Pliskova in 2), so Mai Grage's match should begin soon (they're on the scoreboard now). Good luck Mai!

Q-R2:
Mai Grage (DEN) vs. Tadeja Majeric (SLO)

Mai Grage (DEN) vs. Tadeja Majeric (SLO) *3-5...

Kom Så Mai!

But it seems so far Majeric is little better playing today...

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Majeric won 1st set 6-4 but Mai Grage put in a good effort in her attempt to break back at 5-4. It seems like Majeric was struggling to hold her serve (many deuces in the last game).

Q-R2:
Tadeja Majeric (SLO) def. Mai Grage (DEN) 6-4 6-3

Good performance by Mai Grage. She did win 7 games, and won a lot of points as well (66 vs. 77). It wasn't an easy match for Majeric. Good luck in Copenhagen

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Mai Grage is in the 10K Chiswick, GBR, next week (26 Jul to 01 Aug). She'll probably have to play qualification.

Malou Ejdesgaard plays the same tournament. I don't know if Mai Grage will play doubles as well but it could be fun if she and Malou were a doubles team here...

Are any of these young Danes like Grage, Ejdesgaard, and Barbat capable of making it into the top 100 or so someday?

Probably not - at least not within a couple of years - but I hope I'm wrong! Mai Grage has almost exclusively played on the Junior circuit, so it's hard to say something about her potential. A SF at Roland Garros this year (in doubles) proves she has some talent. Grage was also quite good at the Fed Cup in February winning two singles for Denmark vs. Latvia and Israel (allthough she also lost a singles match vs. Hungary 0-6 0-6 when she had to replace a sick Wozniacki). Grage has been part of a special training program under the Danish Tennis Federation for a long time, and her ambition (recentlty adjusted) is to be #10 in the world! Grage is probably the most likely of these three to reach top 100.

Ejdesgaards ambitions are more modest - #100 in the world in singles. But Ejdesgaard has always - even as a child - been a vey good doubles player winning a lot of titles.

Barbat is some sort of "lone wolf", trained by a very charismatic father who's not on good terms with the Federation. Barbat has played a lot of small tournaments this year, but often loses in the first round. Her first final was at a 10K a month ago. I can't really see top 100 in a near future, but she's probably a more likely top 100 than Ejdesgaard.

We probably have to look at the age group under 14 and under 12 to find the really big talents. Simone Alipieva, 12 y.o., is quite impressive at the U12 Nations Challenge in Italy right now. She has won all her matches (vs. Portugal, Ukraine, and Belarus) in both singles and doubles! She is really talented (almost Wozniacki-like), but it's difficut to predict how far her talent will bring her when she's still so young...

Mai Grage's Q draw at 10K Chiswick, GBR:

Mai Grage (DEN) vs. Claire Birnie (GBR)
Lucia Kovarcikova (SUI) vs. Harriet Sheahan (AUS)

She has to win two qualification matches to enter MD.

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Caro's team will find new Caroline talent in the future...

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

During the Farum Tournemant many new talents will come and train in Caro's Tennis Academy, and cheer on Caro when she plays.

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Next week before the Farum Tournament Caroline will again be No. 3 in the SEWTA Rankings, but there can go long before Denmark get a new TOP 100 player. Mai Grage is a new talent, but can she reach TOP 100, time will show...
