Re: Martina's 167 Single Titles

The thing about "official" records is, they're often incomplete. Martina's official record excludes some of her titles, such as 1973 Pilsen. (I remember them being listed in her bio before they mysteriously disappeared.) The official record for 1 season is 21 singles titles, shared by King and Court. Billie Jean did it in the 1st full year of the VS circuit, playing every tourney. That's the year she set the wins record.

I've counted Gibson with 23 singles titles in 1956, and estimate roughly the same or more singles match wins as King's record. (110+)

Brian, I thought the reason Pilsen was removed was because it was the Czech National Championships and therefore not eligible for inclusion as an international tournament.
