Kim doesn't know how to play Martina without hitting errors

As I've been saying for the last week, Clijsters makes a lot of unforced errors against Hingis (in last years Oz Open, This year's Oz Open, Roland Garros first set). And in Hingis' press conference she explained how her mixing it up forces those 'unforced errors' cos Kim can't play a regular up and down rally against her.

Quote:
Q. Do you get any satisfaction out of the pleasure that you give people who watch you? You give us more tennis. They used to think a dropshot was against the law till you showed up here last year.

MARTINA HINGIS: Yeah, I mean, today I always tried to give her a different look at the ball 'cause I think that's why she made so many errors. If you let her go right and left, which she loves to do, to give her the same shot, I mean, that's suicide. That's what I think I did very well. That's why she was spreading.

I got her a few times, anticipated well. That's why, you know, she was missing, because somehow I was already waiting for her shots.

That's my game. I mean, that's how I win my matches. That's why I was up early in the second set, with a set behind my back. Well, I don't know. It was definitely the most disappointing loss against her I've had.

Re: Kim doesn't know how to play Martina without hitting errors

In the first set, it had very little to do with Hingis.

Re: Kim doesn't know how to play Martina without hitting errors

That's true for some of Kim's UEs but not for all of them. The shots Kim missed when the court was right open, the shots Kim missed after she built up a point really well, that wasn't Martina.

I couldn't disagree more. At 0-2 in the 1st set Martina got her head in the match, served better, really worked the rallies and made Kim look very sloppy. Some of it was Martina's variety, some of it was Kim playing stupidly.
Martina got tight at the end of the match, lost the belief, and Kim came back. IMO Martina lost this match just as much as Kim won it.
Some bad errors for Martina...

I wish we could acknowledge and celebrate Kim's win without belittling Martina, who did many things well today, and unlike 5 of the other top 8 lived up to her seeding here.
There were some amazing points in this match! At 4-3 in the 3rd Kim didn't blink, she deserved the win, and she should be thrilled to be another semi!

WTF is Martina whining about?

She hasn't beaten Kim in almost six years. And will probably never be able to beat her.

Let's face it. Martina is lucky to be in the top ten. And as the younger players become more accustomed to her '70's style tennis, she'll find it hard to compete against them.

We'll see...but I would hardly call it whining. She was legitimately upset that she lost a match and is then required to talk about it in a press conference as I am sure you are aware!?

Some bad errors for Martina when she had 2 bp's to go up 3-0 in the 3rd...

2 break points to go up 3-0 in the third?! I don't know what you were watching, but I saw Martina serve up 2-0 in that set, and lose the game to love.

Yeah, I meant GP's, not BP's, but I was thinking of the wrong game anyway...but it was a pretty terrible service game!

Re: Kim doesn't know how to play Martina without hitting errors

Martina always give the extra shot to her opponents, that's why Clijsters made a lot of UE but really sad that she did not win it cos she really deserved it. She was just too short physically! But I am still happy with the level of Martina. COME ON!!!!!!!

Re: Kim doesn't know how to play Martina without hitting errors

That's what Martina is saying. And what you want to believe.

Kim herself on the otherhand told in her post match interview (Belgium) she didn't feel the ball well and couldn't see the ball well today. In other words, Kim clearly had an off day.

You haven't read the whole interview. I am sure Martina knows more than anybody that Kim was struggling out there.

Maybe they're such good friends and Kim doesn't want Martina to lose so badly and can afford some UE to not beat Martina so heavily.
