Fed Cup First Round Venues / Surfaces Announced
World Group
USA v Belgium: tba, USA (what is wrong with the USTA ... cannot find a location that Serena will agree to playing?)
Russia v Spain: Small Sports Arena ‘Luzhniki’, Moscow, RUS; surface tba - indoors - if Russia is going to trot out Sharapova (debut), Dementieva, Petrova and Kuznetsova in what is sure to be a rout of Spain, why not do it in a bigger stadium
France v Japan: Palais des Sports Beaublanc, Limoges, FRA; clay - indoors
I think France should have picked a fast hard court so Ame and Tati can serve Japan off the court ... now it will be a dogfight
Italy v China, P.R.: Nova Yadinia, Castellaneta Marina, ITA; clay - outdoors ... where is this place? China will upset Italy
World Group II
Slovak Republic v Czech Republic: Sibamac Arena, National Tennis Centre, Bratislava, SVK; clay - indoors
Germany v Croatia: TV Fürth 1860 Tennis, Fürth, GER; clay - outdoors
Canada v Israel: Kamloops Sport & Wellness Center, Kamloops, CAN; carpet - indoors
Austria v Australia: Messe Dornbirn, Dornbirn, USA ; clay - indoors

China "should" beat Italy
Na Li and Shuai Peng should be able to win at least 2 matches from Schiavone & whoever else Italy plays
Jie / Zi is almost a certain win in the doubles

Re: Fed Cup First Round Venues / Surfaces Announced
italy won the whole thing last year for a reason... especially on clay, with a healthy flavia and fran, there is a good chance for italy to win...
that being said, i like the chinese girls too, so i wouldn't be crushed by an upset
p.s. the venue is in southern italy, same region where flavia is from

ana ivanovic and the italian girls, especially pennetta (forza azzurre! RG CHAMP FRANCESCA AND FINALIST SARA!)
aga, vika, sam, na in the next tier
NEVER say "I don't care who wins, I just want good tennis"

Russia should win 5-0, especially if it is indoor carpet. Japan-France and Italy-China will be close. Not too sure about Slovakia playing on clay, Danka's worst surface and if Sucha plays as well she struggles on nearly every surface

Re: Fed Cup First Round Venues / Surfaces Announced
USA/Belgium has the potential to be a great tie with Serena/Venus & Kim/JHH or an awfully boring one... I think Serena might play and therefore it is likely to be in Florida on HC.

Kim & JHH are both not playing fed cup this year
I think Perry/Jacksons/King/Granville/Shaughnessy vs Flipkens/Maes will be one of the most uninteresting match ups. How things have changed

I would love to see that match up. I wish there was a sports channel in the US that would carry the laterd rds of the Fed Cup...not just the us match ups

Is Venus safe for Beijing already?
Venus said on TC her goal was to be in Beijing
for the Olympics. Having last played Fed Cup
in 05', does she have to play this year to be
eligible to be picked? That whole making one's
self available to play at some point two years
prior to the games.
I think Venus will play.

RUS v ESP to be played on indoor clay court. Tarpischev said the girls asked him to play on clay
And Small "Luzhniki" is a big venue. Originally it's ice hockey stadium with capacity of 10,000+ spectators.
