in the thread titled "who has the easiest/hardest draw",
most said either Sharapova or Mauresmo.
so here's a list of who they could potentially be up against. the comparison is based on mainly rankings (which i realize don't fully represent how good the player is)


Sharapova
1st Round: Camille Pin #62 (0-0)
2nd Round: Roberta Vinci #87
3rd Round: Tathiana Garbin #33
4th Round: Ana Ivanovic #14 (1-0 - last match Linz 2006 in two sets)
Quarters: Patty Schnyder #9 (4-1 - two wins from 2006)
Semi's: Kim Clijsters #5 (2-4 - however Maria won the last two matches last year in two sets)

Mauresmo
1st: Shenay Perry #44
2nd: Olga Poutchkova #38
3rd: Jie Zheng #31
4th: Francesca Schiavone #20 (4-3 but Franny won the last 2)
Quarters: Dementieva (9-4) #8/Vaidisova #12 (2-2 - Nicole won the last 2 in 3 tight sets, however Mauresmo destroyed her 6-1 6-1 at last year's Open)
Semi's: Svetlana Kuznetsova #4 (4-3 - however Sveta won the last 3 matches) /Jelena Jankovic #11 (4-1 but lost last match)

So anyway, the bottom half is definitely more "open"

And what I meant was that Jankovic will take out Kuznetsova.

i would say Maria got the easier draw BASED PURELY on rankings.

still, if Amelie was playing much better in the tune-ups and is clearly showing some form, we wouldn't need to be worrying like we are right now.
