Its his first Challenger QF since sept 2008 I believe and both wins were in straight sets. He'll play Sijsling (146) or Berankis (157) in the QFs. They are on serve at 5-4 in the deciding set at the moment.

Moriarty lost again in the 1st round in 3 sets in Cairns.

Glancy is through to the 2nd round of Nottingham but Sam Barry lost to a wild card and the pair got a bye to the QF of the doubles.

Vasselin also went up to 104 after he won St Remy last week. Does anyone know how much points are given per round in Istanbul by the way?

Re: irish tennis

he gets 18 pts for qf in istanbul so should be in top 400 now. Anyone know why Louk had to retire in USO? he played in a challenger the next week.

Re: irish tennis

He got cramp in his thumb. Looked quite bad judging by the video... Also James will get an extra 5 points for qualifying, so thats 23 if he loses, and 40 if he wins.

Re: irish tennis

Berankis won 1-6 7-5 6-2. But James should still reach a career high after that

Re: irish tennis

McGee went up to 389 after his QF run, he got through to the main draw in Izmir and will play Thomas Fabbiano (306) in the first round, he'll more than likely face Berankis in the 2nd rd should he win on Tuesday

And according to her twitter page, Vitalia Diatchenko is training in Dublin as we speak

Niland won the first round in the Madrid Challenger 6-4 6-3 and he will face Éric Prodon in the next round

It has bee announced aswell that Barry King has retired from tennis at the age of 26 due to niggling injuries and lack of financial resources. Best of luck to him though! http://www.rte.ie/sport/tennis/2011/0926/kingb.html

Best of luck to Kinger, lovely lad. Surprised Diatchenko was allowed back after her behaviour in the summer. Suppose money talks. Rather have Marta there as everybody loves her.

Re: irish tennis

Its nice to have players of a such a strong caliber training in Ireland. Hey maybe we might do a Kazakhastan job and get them to represent Ireland. lol

Both Conor Niland and Louk Sorensen are playing in 100k+ Challenger Qualifiers in Belgium. If both win their first rounds, they will have to face eachother. Conor is seeded 4th and Louk is unseeded for the qualifiers.
Qualifying Draw: http://www.atpworldtour.com/posting/2011/3350/qs.pdf
Main Draw: http://www.atpworldtour.com/posting/2011/3350/mds.pdf

James McGee will be playing in a Spanish Futures this week. He should be seeded for the tournament: http://www.itftennis.com/mens/tourna...ent=1100025071

Amy Bowtell's ranking is enough for her to automatically get her into the main draw for the 10k in Spain this week: http://www.itftennis.com/womens/tour...ent=1100025076

Julia Moriarty's ranking is also enough for her to automatically qualify for the main draw of the 25k in Esperance, Australia this week: http://www.itftennis.com/womens/tour...ent=1100025065

Sinéad Lohan is on the entry list for a Grade 4 junior tournament in Barcelona next week (10th October). So far she's seeded 2nd: http://www.itftennis.com/juniors/tou...ent=1100024363

Re: irish tennis

Yup its Niland vs Sorensen
Conor Niland defeated Olaf de Weerdt 6-2 6-3 and Louk Sorensen defeated Gero Kretschmer 6-3 6-4 I have a feeling that Sorensen will be able to beat Niland, Conor has been very poor in everything apart from Grand Slams this year

Re: irish tennis

I agree Niland has been fairly poor alright apart from getting into the slams although I reckon he'll beat Sorensen.

You missed out on Sam Barry in Sweden, who I think will be seeded in the draw
http://www.itftennis.com/mens/tourna...order=Position

and Daniel Glancy in France. He plays Bastien Favier in the last quals.
http://www.itftennis.com/mens/tourna...order=Position

I managed to catch James McGee for an interview last week as well if ye want a read. http://sportingirish.wordpress.com/2...h-james-mcgee/
