why ATP has more TV coverage than WTA (at least in Asia)?

In asia thats very poor TV coverage of WTA tournaments.. Since i have no CCTV 5 coverage, I only can watch womans matches if the Grand Slam comes, except for the USO.. (how poor???)

I believe Star Sports' show all the ATP Master Series but only small tournament like Bali, Pattaya of WTA, and it only show AO and Wimbledon every year. It used to show Wimbledon and USO, but they change USO to AO since 2005. I got to watch French open for the 1st time this year from Supersport coverage, though they only show QF to F.

I wonder why WTA is less popular than ATP? I think WTA is more entertaining to watch, the players are good, like Williamses, Belgians, French, Russians (Sharapova has a big name, she's very very popular), and other great players. The competition is more exciting to be follow than the stupid and useless ATP.

WTA must try to improve their marketing strategy i think. I hope i can get some Tier I coverage soon (and i think the only hope is from Star Sports)

The reason is that ATP has much more to offer than WTA. The matches are on higher level and are more interesting for the viewers. In WTA we get lots of UE's and often boring matches where the fav is obvious. ATP offers match more variety.
Nonetheless I hardly ever watch ATP, only when there's nothing else to watch or ES shows it during Slams. Partly because I felt in love with tennis watching WTA on ES where they have poor coverage of ATP.

In ATP, the unseeded players oftenly cracked into QF, SF and even Final round. Sometimes i wonder who's this guy? What his ranking? I wonder where is the seeded players? How come they lose to the unknown guys? OMG i mean, can we call that the level of ATP is pathetic?

When the WTA competition is very entertaining to watch, if a player wants to ranked higher she must work harder to get it. The QF to F always oftenly played by seeded players and its pleasure to watch.

But in ATP players in the top 100 are on really high level, I mean it's a tough competition. Roger playing 3 sets against players that he should trash in 2 short sets.
I remember one thing. Patty Schnyder played few times to ATP players, we all know Patty's rank and her opponent was ranked sth like 1000 and guess what Patty lost. That should give you a viev on what level ATP is.
I understand your frustration, you want to watch WTA. May be if I were you I would feel the same way, but probably I would stick to ATP more and wouldn't care about WTA so much as I don't care so much about ATP now.
Anyway I hope that in the future you will get more WTA coverage.

The WTA isn't even close to being as tough as the ATP. F.e. Federer on a different wavelength than the rest and still you don't see him get very many bagels which are common in the WTA.
The only reason I watch more WTA is because the matches take less time, but men's matches are much higher quality usually.
Also think about who's watching the sports: men. And men like watching men's sports in general.

You're totally right. WTA is so predictable, in ATP everything can happen.
Just like you I like WTA 'cuz the matches are faster, I hate those long men's matches, especially on clay lasting 3 hours or more.

The ATP shows coverage from the first round. But the WTA only shows coverage from the Quarterfinals on I dont like Men's tennis so its annoying for me

Yeah, on ATP you never see same two people winning all the big tournaments, it could never happen because the competition is so high...

At least Eurosport shows MUCH more WTA than ATP. And at least few years ago, WTA generally had higher ratings. But it's true that quality of tennis tends to be higher on ATP. Male players also usually have bigger endorsements.

Its same on ESPN in America. ESPN has every round of ATP events during week starting on Monday, but only starts at saturday for WTA.

Why roger should have trash tursunov, gasquet or malisse in two sets? these players are good enough to give him some tough matches, the real reason is the machism in the sports
