I hope she has a good tournament and can get her ranking into the one hundreds. I was at the Wimbledon Qualifying and she was unlucky to draw Anna Fitzpatrick who plays a lot of grass court events.
Later in the week she was with a friend watching Go Soeda's match when it rained, so I gave them my umbrella (only a short shower luckily!). She seems like a really nice person, so I hope she plays well in Japan this week.
Thanks for the welcome Sugi! Junri was really nice and at first refused because I think she thought I'd get soaked!? However the lady sitting next to me said I could share her umbrella, and Junri and her friend borrowed mine until the shower stopped!
She was very gratefull afterwards.
The first set in her qualifying match was tight and could have gone either way, however in the second she made a few unforced errors and the set quckly slipped away.
Although lower ranked, Anna would have spent the last month playing on grass whilst Junri and the other Japanese players were trying to qualify for Roland Garros on clay so the result is'nt to much of an upset.
Junri seems to be playing well in the Japanese ITF tour recently so I hope she gets some points to move her up the rankings?!
Thanks CANADA8 I was following the match against Fitzpatrick on the livescores Did Junri speak good English? Sorry for asking all these questions, I just would love to meet Junri one day and I am interested in what she is like
Junri's English was good, she thanked me in English, but only said a few words so I could'nt say how fluent she was!?
By the way, the photo's in the thread of Junri in Paris are excellent !
I'm hoping to visit the Japan Open in October so I can hopefully see Junri and Co. in action again.
I presume so
She did really well in the US Open Quallys last year when I first noticed her. She reached the 3rd round and destroyed Ivana Lisjak who made the 3rd round of the US Open in 2005 in the 2nd round
