Apple Macbook Pro

I'm looking into purchasing a MacBook Pro.

Specifications
  • 2.0GHz Intel Core Duo
  • 1GB 667 DDR2 - 1 SO-DIMM
  • 80GB Serial ATA drive @ 5400 rpm
  • MacBook Pro 15-inch Glossy Widescreen Display
  • SuperDrive (DVD±RW/CD-RW)
  • AirPort Extreme Card & Bluetooth
  • Backlit Keyboard/Mac OS - U.S. English
  • iWork '06 preinstalled
  • 15.4-inch TFT Display
for a price of $2028.00.

The price is a non-issue, but what I'm concerned about is the computer itself. I've never personally owned a Mac, but used my brother's Powerbook frequently.

Actual battery life?
Overheating problem?
Satisfaction?
Portability?
Reviews?
Pros/Cons?

LOL. Do you like posting threads on how rich you are and how much money you have and what amazing Uni you go to?

Mac's are awesome, but mine broke down about 6 times in it's first year.

I've had a Powerbook G4 for about two years and never once had a single problem with it, and its on all the time and in near constant use. Battery life is a little shorter than it used to be, but I can still get a good 3 hours or so of active use out of it when it isn't plugged in. I have a 15" and it is a little big for some things, but generally i've found it to be quite portable. It does get really hot, though, although it has never affected the performance of the computer. I just keep it off of my lap because the heat gets slightly uncomfortable. I've played around with Macbooks, and in my opinion, if you can afford it? Go for it.

i had a powerbook G4, and ive recently upgraded to a 15" macbook pro, and so far, no complaints. i had a couple hard drive problems with my powerbook, but after using macs, id never go back to using PCs. i dont know what you want to know about portability. its a laptop, its made for portability. 15" is obviously going to be more portable than the 17".

I HAVE A MAC BOOK PRO 17in!!!

ok if money is no issue i would go with this instead

2.0GHz Intel Core Duo
2GB 667 DDR2 - 2x1GB SO-DIMMs
100GB Serial ATA drive @ 7200 rpm
MacBook Pro 15-inch Glossy Widescreen Display
SuperDrive (DVD±RW/CD-RW)
AirPort Extreme Card & Bluetooth
Backlit Keyboard/Mac OS - U.S. English
iWork '06 preinstalled
15.4-inch TFT Display
the price from the educational store is 2,478.00

if you are not a student. i would just drop one of the ram sticks and get this

2.0GHz Intel Core Duo
1GB 667 DDR2 - 1 SO-DIMM
100GB Serial ATA drive @ 7200 rpm
MacBook Pro 15-inch Glossy Widescreen Display
SuperDrive (DVD±RW/CD-RW)
AirPort Extreme Card & Bluetooth
Backlit Keyboard/Mac OS - U.S. English
iWork '06 preinstalled
15.4-inch TFT Display

which comes out to: 2,478.00

either way you need AT LEAST 1gam to get the most of these new machines. also a faster and larger harddrive will make sure that your $2K plus investment is still useable a year from now.

i love my MBP: this is what I have

2.16GHz Intel Core Duo
1GB 667 DDR2 - 1 SO-DIMM
120GB Serial ATA drive @ 5400 rpm

MacBook Pro 17-inch Widescreen Display
SuperDrive 8x (DVD+R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
Backlit Keyboard/Mac OS - U.S. English
AirPort Extreme Card & Bluetooth
17-inch TFT Display

I've had no problems at all with Macs, and I've been using them my entire life. Actually, come to think of it, OS 8.6 was a distaster, but they're way past that now!

No viruses, no spyware, much easier to operate than Windows, hardly any technical problems (and those that happen are minor).. I have a PowerBook G4 now and I'm in love with it.

we're runs macs in our office and i got a 17 inch macbook pro a month ago. Very impressed. So fast battery life is pretty good - about 4 hours fully charged.

Remember it doesn't come with Windows installed - you have to download bootcamp and then use your own copy of windows xp. I did and from my limited use of it i haven't had any problems - but i'm not doing any high end work on xp because i just use the desktops pcs in our office.

I got it because i needed it but if you're not rushed probably better served waiting a month or so to see if there are any big problems that come from nowhere - i doubt they will though.

windows xp would not install on my machine, and remember that bootcamp is not yet supported by apple, so if you have a problem installing bootcamp or windows, you are shit out luck, as i am at the moment.

you probably already did this but i had to update the firmware on the mac, then run bootcamp setup, then install xp.

i don't know i found it all pretty smooth but as it's a beta application until 10.5 is released there is less support. the apple site still has quite a few instruction about it though.

hope you get it working
